Extremely lucky.... and very happy!

Just to update you guys on my second time around with IVF - I had my transfer on X-mas Eve.  I was hoping Santa would bring me something nice for X-mas and he did!  I am now 18 weeks pregnant and due on the 17th of Sept.  I can not believe how lucky I have been with my 2 attempts at IVF.  I'm not sure yet whether I'll have anymore children after this second time around.  But then we have to decide what to do with our left over embryos in storage.  I would be interested in other peoples opinions, who have stored eggs, what they plan to do with the ones they dont use.  My partner is not overly keen on donating them to another couple and I really dont want them to be destroyed.

Congratulations!
How thrilled you must be .

My husband and I have decided to donate our embryos if we have any spare to another couple.
We would hate to see someone else's dreams of having a child unforfilled.
We thought long and hard about it. We can also see the merits of donating them to science as well.

Congratulations!

I am so happy for you.  Santa was good to you this year!

Deciding what to do with the embryo's is a very difficult thing to decide.  It was something I hadn't thought of when starting IVF in 2004.  But, of course we had to decide when we started.  My husband and I didn't want them donated to another couple.  It might sound mean and uncaring and selfish but we didn't want a child of ours out there and us not know about it!

Destroying them is a difficult thing as well.  Our decision was to donate them for research.  I am a nurse and feel strongly about research and improving the IVF process.  We were told that they would be for the improvement of the thawing process.  I figured if we weren't going to use them, they should be put to good use.

That being said, it never came down to it.  We used all of our eggs the first round of IVF and only had 1 egg the second and thankfully, that ended in a pregnancy.

We are looking at doing IVF again soon so will be faced with the same issues.  I am not sure how we will manage the embryos this time?
