Pockets

by mcmComment Published at 00:2100:210 comments0 comments107 Visits107 VisitsReport
Pockets are as the name suggests a pocket in which to stuff an absorbent piece of material. The pocket itself is usually a shell which doesn't need a cover (though there are some that do need a cover) and fits to baby.
Below is my bub in a Green Kids Thomas Funtimes pocket.

Fitted cloth

by mcmComment Published at 00:1200:120 comments0 comments131 Visits131 VisitsReport
Fitted cloth refers to cloth that is fitted to baby.
It may needed to be pinned or may be done up with a  snappi.
Or it will have velcro or snaps.
Fitteds can be made from various fabrics such as flannelette, terry towelling (just like traditional cloth) organic cotton or lush fabrics such as bamboo which is very absorbent as is hemp.
Below is my fave cloth nappy and cover atm. A side snapping Very Baby made by Erica Nappies with wool shorties as a cover.
I usually use fitteds on my bub.

Traditional cloth

I think it is a good idea for any pregnant mum to include even a dozen cloth nappies in her shopping list before baby comes. They are great for emergencies. Can be used for almost all messes! And are good to put on the floor for nappy free time.
(Just to clarify nappy means the same as diaper)
I bought 24 white terry cloth for my first child. I intended to use cloth from the start. In the hospital they advocated cloth too. Once home and dealing with soaking and a demanding a newborn and being unwell myself I couldn't keep up and she was in disposables at 3 weeks.
Last pregnancy i bought 8 coloured flats for emergencies. When I started to find out about modern cloth I thought I would use them. My baby was in cloth til he ran out then in disposables. I bought some fitteds which are much easier for me.

My bub in a coloured terry flat.
One pin is all I owned! If I misplaced it I just put a well fitting cover over.
For a modern spin on terry squares you can now buy soft bamboo flats or organic cotton. Prefolds are also a good idea as they have a section sewed in to increase absorbency where it matters.

These are a few of my bub's flats and prefolds. The first is a large organic cotton prefold which is in three sections. The second pictured prefold has more sewn into the middle. Then there is an organic cotton flat, bamboo flat and a few coloured flats.

Using cloth

Welcome to Minti
I started this group for 1. a selfish reason - so i can talk about nappies! and 2. a less selfish reason so I may be able to help others who would like to use cloth but not sure of the options.
Please feel free to ask questions and join if you use cloth or not.
