People's Reaction to cloth nappies

by masonfamilyComment Published at 01:2401:247 comments7 comments94 Visits94 VisitsReport

Hi everyone, just wanted to say, its great that cloth nappies are still around. I always have people sounding really surprised that I use them for my babies. Especially as I have been using them since my 1st born and she is 6 now. Have 4 babies all up and the last 2 are still in them. I find it less expensive then disposables and I'm a stay at home mum so my life revolves around my children so doing extra laundry is nothing to me. I have been finding it hard to find pilchers because hardly anyone uses cloth nappies anymore so they are not stocking them anywhere but Kmart. Once again, good on all of you parents who still use them for your bubs.

Hannah

P.S

Love the new designs of the nappies in past posts.

Re: People's Reaction to cloth nappies

I've got to say that using cloth is actually EASIER most of the time. And as Im not the most organised person, for me to say that....!

I've been defaulting to the greener disposibles at night as she was just so wet, but as she slept thru last night after a VERY short feed (hurray!) her nappy was hardly used so if that continues she will be back in cloth at night too as I hate the idea that Im wasting money (dont you just hate it when they wait til there's a clean nappy on before a poo! No prob with cloth! Or when it's half an hour til bedtime but the nappy is full - ditto - just stuff it less!).

I will really miss them whe she potty trains, which is beginning to happen.

And cloth nappies can have such great patterns - who wants boring old white disposibles, eh? Just doesnt look right any more. Not to mention the smell of disposibles - you can just smell the chemicals when the urine soaks into the gel - DH always thinks she's got a dirty nappy on coz she stinks so much more than usual!

Re: People's Reaction to cloth nappies

The worst reaction I got to cloth nappies was recently when I offered to give DD2s cloth nappies to a pregnant family member. Seemed a nice offer to me, especially as they are living on benefits at the moment, but you'd have thought I'd offered to give them all her used nappies with the contents still in them from the horrified reaction! Fine, say no thanks, but not quite like that....! Honestly, it's not like they arent thoroughly washed! I just dont get it!

Re: People's Reaction to cloth nappies

After wearing cloth nappies, my 15month old son looks so uncomfortable in squelchy disposables!!

Re: People's Reaction to cloth nappies

I got the same reaction when I had my kids - everyone told me it was a waste of time and too much bother and not to use them when I said I would. I was determined though and I used cloth squares right through for my oldest (although he was out of them completely at 20 months) and for at least the first 6 months with my youngest (who has only given nappies the boot in the last 2 weeks at 24 months, woohoo!). I did start getting a few modern cloth when our youngest was around 6 months and slowly built the supply to take over from the cloth squares - but either way I would do it all over again!

We love wool. I wish I knew you could use wool I would have used them with my first rather than Fluffies. I knit soakers and pants - love em!

I don't really notice the extra laundry. I have to wash clothes and towels anyway. I think its easier than disposables.

I use cloth nappies also - I just love the way they look, flapping on the clothes line!
