Considering cloth

by mumof2bComment Published at 17:0217:025 comments5 comments47 Visits47 VisitsReport

Hi everyone!

As you all know I'm having twins, due in July. I'm seriously considering using cloth  for both money saving reasons and the fact that I'll be home ALOT (lol), so will have plenty of time to get the hang of them and wash etc as there will be double. I'm just after some help with what I'll need and where to get them, hopefully cheap as I'll need double quantity. I used cloth with my first child but they were just the flat terry cloth ones, then went onto disposables with my second for convenience, so I really have no idea when it comes to all these new cloth ones on the market.

Re: Considering cloth

good choice alot cheaper to! we love our itti bitti's on the downside they are sized but on the upside you can pick them up around $25 in bulk packs and then resell for $15-20 when you are finished if they are in good condition.

Re: Considering cloth

I highly recommend cloth - I used flats for Jack right through and for Oscar until he was around 6 months then I got AIO for him & never looked back! You can get some fantastic AIO nappies that adjust so you can use them from birth until toilet training stage - I have found ebay the best place to buy...my sister in law just got some very similar to one type that I used and a LOT cheaper....I'll see if I can find a link for you - cgi.ebay.com.au/8-FashionBaby-AIO-One-Size-Cloth-Diapers-Nappy-8-Insert_W0QQitemZ350179746279QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Nappies   - these are the ones she got and they look great....there should be bigger packs on there too & they are half the price of "brand name" ones. There are tonnes to look at but ones like these I have found to work best.

Re: Considering cloth

In Australia you can get second nappies from sites such as buyforbaby.

Initially I would suggest prefolds or half flats for the newborn stage. As they get bigger you may choose fitteds but to keep costs down continue to use flats and/or prefolds at home. For convenience, AI2s (like all in ones but 2 pieces for quicker drying) are good - such as when going out.

I think its better to get good quality covers than pay a lot for nappies for when your babies are small (and they may be for longer than most as usual for twins). Covers with gussets are great - just place folded flat or prefold in the cover.

Re: Considering cloth

Good on you! Being in the UK I cant give all that much advice on where to buy cloth, but generally for keeping the budget down, consider second hand nappies (I bought mine on www.usednappies.co.uk - I expect there's an equivalent in Australia) or post a Want on your local Freecycle Yahoo site.

I personally love Pocket Nappies, and if you still have those flat terries hiding somewhere, they are fine for stuffing Pockets with, though Bamboo or Hemp are better, being more absorbant for less bulk. Any questions, please ask!
