| Welcome to the 'Junk Box'!!
This is a place where you can post about anything other than parenting advice.....leave that for main minti. I have seen so many posts about not being able to discuss things they consider important and would rather it not be on their blog. I thought this way, people would be able to voice what they want and in a more appropriate place about matters not quite related to minti's objective.
Let's face it, when we joined minti we read what this parenting site wanted to be and that is different than any other site around. The best thing is that we do have options like this to post anything we want, so post away guys and enjoy!!
A good place to discuss anything unrelated to parenting.

Hi, I’m a Society and Culture student in my last year at school in Australia and as part of the course, it is required that the Personal Interest Project (PIP) is completed. It would be appreciated if you could fill in this survey I recreated online which will help me with my PIP.

I think we all know there are two kinds of English, one that we write and read and one that we speak and hear. But is there now a third kind of English? The new Text message!
When I was young we were told to spell the word out so you can pronounce it correctly. So is L8 the same as late? As adults many of us know how to spell certain words and can recognize them when writing, but when it comes to using them in speech if we do not know the pronunciation of the word we tend to use a different word even if the meaning is not what we mean.
William Shakespeare in his play ROMEO AND JULIET wrote the words “ Romeo says, Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow. And Juliet response with …that I shall say good night till it be morrow” This shows the pain of parting and the pleasurable anticipation of their next meeting but what if it said.” CYA, CYA L and Juliet responses with CYA BCNU” tends to lose something.
So is it a good thing that our children are using these sms txt message?
Let me know your thoughts. |

Earth Hour
At 7.30pm on 31 March 2007, Sydney is being asked to turn off its lights for just one hour - Earth Hour - to show that it's possible to take action on global warming.
Earth Hour is just the start of a 12 month campaign to reduce Sydney's greenhouse gas emissions by 5%. This could be achieved if all businesses and households turned off unused lights and appliances on standby.
Earth Hour is being supported by Sydney companies, government departments, individuals and families ˆ with thousands committing to turn off their lights for just one hour. It's a simple action if everyone takes part, sending a powerful message that we care about the future of the planet. Find out how you can get involved here <http://earthhour.smh.com.au/what-is-earth-hour.html> |

....I did not get to do the BRR ride this weekend. Thurs night when I was putting Alexa to bed at 3:00am I did something to my back. It hurts to bend over and also to pick up my daughter.
So it was no bike ride for me. The girl I was going with still did it and she said it was brutal!!
I was really bummed as I wanted to be one of the few that could say...I tried it! Oh well, we'll see what next year brings! |

Yep, I will officially be in the crazy category after this weekend....why? you ask?
I will be participating in the annual February BRR bike ride on Saturday. BRR stands for "Bike Ride to Rippey". It is a 26 mile round trip bike ride from the town of Perry to the town of Rippey here in Iowa.
The temperatures for this weekend are to be 2 degrees! That's Farenhuit....our freezing point is 32 degrees....so I'm not certain how that transfers to celsius.
Anyway....my husband has ridden his bike when it was this cold, but not me. I did this ride last year and it was about 20 degrees, so this will be a shock and an adventure. At least I am about the same size as my husband so I can use a lot of his cold weather riding clothes!
I'll let you know how it was when I'm done!! |

Has anyone had a cat with Feline aids?
If so, what are the symptoms..early and late ones and is there any other cat problems or illnesses that have the same signs as this?

I posted this on my blog and thought I would here too...I have just finished watching 'Today Tonight' and I am left totally gobbed smacked. I just watched a story about a cruel and abusive prank phone call received by McDonald staff in the USA. These so called mature adults carried out a number of abusive acts on an 18 year old employee without question...such things as strip searching her....slapping her backside 10 times and all because this caller claimed to be a police officer.
Thats not it though, the people who carried out these acts were sentenced to jail, no problems really there...BUT...the guy they found who made the call....was found, get this... Not Guilty.
What????? Oh Dear God!
Where on earth do these people come from? Are they brain dead?
My question to you all is what would you do, while at work, if you received a phone call from someone claiming to be an officer of the law wanting you to carry out acts of abuse on another employee? |
