HELP

by LeishaComment Published at 20:4820:482 comments2 comments81 Visits81 VisitsReport
My little man has just learnt how to depant himself - nappy and all. Due to this little trick of his I have been advised to start toilet training him now. My problem - he is only 19 months old and he talks very little so how am I meant to teach him to use the toilet with minimal communication abilities. Has anyone else been faced with this dilemma? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

toilet training

I was lucky enough I supose you would say to have been through it already with my first son who is now 4 so when my youngest 23months decided he didn't want his nappy on any more we took his favourite teddy and put a nappy oon him  and tok teddy to potty and as much as some people dont like the idea of taking child with you to the toilet he was very curious what was happening and I got him to sit on the potty when we were in the toilet, either my husband or my self. He has now taken a lot more interest in it and goes and gets the potty himself. As for the communication side of things, does he listen to you if you ask him to do something, if he does then he at least has some understanding of what you are saying and from there you just need to feel your way through the rest. He will do it when he is ready and unfortunately not before. Good luck.

HELP
We started semi toilet training our son at around 16 months as he had a bad habit of pooing in the bath whenever we put him in it. We still at the moment only put him on potty just before he hops in the bath. My advice is to buy a potty (to begin with rather than the toilet), start taking him with you when you go (so he realizes what it's for) and take it in small steps, start with before bath or after breakfast and build up from there and lots of praise when he does go potty.
