What is your favourite flower?

by BrightonBelleComment Published at 13:4213:4239 comments39 comments757 Visits757 VisitsReport

I have been researching flowers and their meanings for my sisters renewal of vows ceremony later in the year and this got me wondering what my own favourite flower was - I've decided that it is a pale pink rose which has the meaning of Grace, gladness, joy, perfect happiness, please believe me, gratitude, admiration, gentility.

I like this flower as this is what I choose for my wedding bouquet and was the flowers that the Hubby give me when Amy was born, it also reminds me of my sister.

So now over to you - What is your favourite flower and why? If you don't know the meaning of your flower then I would be happy to tell you.

Re: What is your favourite flower?

These are usually flowers that get overlooked as weeds and I remember being told that if you pick a Dandelion you would wet the bed as a child!

Their real meaning are as follows- Faithfulness, happiness, love's oracle.

Buttercups - Childishness

Re: What is your favourite flower?

Different Lillies have different meanings,

Cala - Beauty

Orange -I burn for you

White - Purity, virginity, majesty, its heavenly to be with you. It is also linked to Juno the queen of the gods in Roman mythology, by the story that while nursing her son Hercules, some excess milk fell from the sky creeating the milky way then the milk that fell to the Earth created lillies.

Yellow -I'm walking on air.

Re: What is your favourite flower?

I was not familar with Frangipanis, so I did a little research. I agree with you that they are beautiful flowers and apparently they have a fantastic perfume - unfortunately the only meaning that I could find for them is that in Bangledesh they are used for funerals!

If anyone knows any other meaning I would be very interested.

Re: What is your favourite flower?

It would depend on what part of the world you come from. The Thais associate the tree with death and believe the tree is the abode of departed spirits particularly those who did not have a good life while alive here on earth.

Another meaning is Shelter, "I want to protect you from anything evil."

Another school of thought is the five petals of the  Frangipani flower represent five qualities necessary for Psychological Perfection: sincerity, faith, aspiration, devotion and surrender

Re: What is your favourite flower?

I absolutely love frangipani's (plumeria), their perfume, the simple clean shape and they remind me of warm summer nights.  My favourite colours are like this:

I would love it if you could find out the meaning for me.  They aren't the sort of flower you can pick and put in a vase, however they stay nice for a few days floating in a glass container of water.
