Miss Pink nose our eldest Daughters cat was found at the door a week past Friday with a broken leg. It was obvious that she had been in a collision with a car and had at the least, fractured her femur. We scooped her up to the Vet where they hoped that she would cope with having the leg pinned, but they needed to settle her first and deal with the shock factor. There were also signs of internal bleeding, but thankfully her bladder was intact and no sign of head injury.
We left her in the Vets hands and I took Ruth off to school and Caty to nursery, then had an anxious wait while awaiting the X-Rays.
Bad news they could not pin the leg, not enough bone left at the top to hold. Hubby took the photo of the X- Ray, the wrong way round, its a man thing me thinks,LOL.

Amputation was her only option. So we agreed to go ahead with it and another anxious wait while they did the op.
24hrs later and Miss Pink Nose was home, minus a leg and floating on cloud nine with all the meds she was to take, bless and her Mistress in attendance to cater to her every need.

It was really cool that they agreed to allow us to take her home. Daughter has a dream to be a vet nurse and this would give her a little insight as to just what that entails. So DD had to learn to administer fluids every hour, give meds, liquid parafin and then help her little friend to pass her stools. I have to say that once DD got over the shock of that idea she took her nursing responsability very seriously.
As Pink Nose lost her leg instantly unlike a cat with an ongoing issue she had no chance to build muscles on the remaining leg and spine to cope. So physio had to be done initially to aid balance and DD was excellent and dilligent in carrying that through.
A week on and Miss Pink Nose is hopping about and has even managed to climb over the back wall, but not return, too high on that side,LOL. Just as well DD is good at hoping on over to rescue her, hehe.
Stitches come out tomorrow and it looks like our little cat has taken it all in her stride. What amazes me most is that she was in utter agony yet that little cat brought herself home despite the pain to look for help. True Courage.

Omgoodness, this verterinary nursing could be dangerous to our backyard. lol. We had a stray bunny come into work the other day and if no one has called by wednesday, he is all ours. I can't wait, I think he will be the perfect addition to our family, the only issue we may have is chewing but he will be an outside bunny and I plan on having ratbag very involved with his care. As it will be primarily his rabbit (its his birthday sunday week and I think a super cool pressie) Fingers crossed (a little sad for the family who may be missing him) that yes we do get to keep him. |

Hi all,
Our two dogs are definately a huge part of our family, we actually refer to them as 'our kids'. We also have an axylotl we certainly don't forget either.
The oldest of our pet family is FRUITY, he's an 18mths old Maltese/Shih Tzu X with very silky, very white hair. He is the placid one, prefering to rest than run around, although he loves his walks. In his 1st year he suffered a lot of allergies, constantly licking and scratching, making it very hard to brush him. He also had multiple cortisone injections to settle him when things got too bad, we keep his hair short for this reason. This year he is doing fantastic, still licks a little, but no scratching and has had no need for cortisone.
Next is PATCHY, a 6mth old Shih Tzu/Maltese X with very fluffy white, black and tan hair. He's the hypo of our family, jumping all over Fruity to try to get him to play, which works sometimes. He is showing no signs of allergy which is fantastic. He's a funny puppy, when you pick him up he straddles you like as if you're holding a baby, complete with head on your shoulder. He's also our little guard dog ready to attack anyone who makes a noise or walks past our house. He gives us plenty of laughs.

Lastly we have our Axylotl LILLY, daughter of our first two Axle and Lolly, who have both now passed on. Lilly is very forward, if she wants a pat she walks to the front of the tank and stands on her back legs, much like the dogs do when they want to be picked up. She's our miracle, almost losing her when her mum died, but we nursed her back to health in shallow water and she truly is our little gem. She sometimes walks the turtle ramp and sticks her head out of the water to have a look around, but not for long. She does what we call her '007' impression, hiding from us in her urn.

And so concluded our pampered pet family.

They must be the number of times I call the kids by the cats or dogs names - lol.
We got 2 kittens for our wedding anniversary last february and they have been 2 of the best cats ever. They have even turned my husband from being an ok about cats person to a cat person.
We have Isis who looks like a miniature panther and acts like one too. She loves to play and if anyone is still up at 11pm well then watch out, this is Isis's time to LOSE THE PLOT! she races around the house at top speed running up walls and jumping from furniture, if you are in the way tough luck!
Her brother Rajah, started off as a little ball of black fluff with a white bib and socks and he fitted in my hand. Now at one year old he is larger than most maltese or terrier dogs. He weighs over 10kg and there is no fat on him. He is a real sook, with a cat this size you would expect him to have the most pathetic meow in the whole world - lol. he is lovely and affectionate although it can be a pain when he wants to cuddle while I am at the computer, he will sit on my hands and cover the keyboard, mouse and my hands and I don't have a choice then as usually I can't see the monitor either through all his fur. I am sure he has to have Main Coon in him.
They keep us on our toes and I just love having them around. Isis is very much a supervisor, she supervises the washing up, often helping by drinking the washing up water eeeewwwww... she supervises bath time too from the edge of the bath and more often than not she ends up in the bath with my husband - lol!
I love pure bred cats, I' ve had Ragdolls and have always wanted a Bengal, but when you get moggies at a good age ie 8 weeks, they just develop so differently. I have also come to the conclusion that long haired cats have the problem that all their brain power is taken up in maintaining that fur which explains why most of them are not the smartest tools in the shed. Poor Rajah head butts the cupboard more than lands on it. I haven't met a long haired cat yet who is a successful climber and jumper. I am not against long haired cats, I adore them. Well I adore most cats. |

Hi Everyone. Well I have an extended family outside the hairless family (my husband he is sort of in the middle, haha).
I have 2 dogs.
A Liver spotted male Dalmation Titan who is 3 yrs old and hates the fact that he was an inside dog until my first little baby arrived. He was bought as a show dog, but only developed the one testical, so down went his show career. He is just enjoying being a pampered pooch.
I also have a grey male Siberian Husky named Tonka who is almost 2. He is for racing next year after I pop out my second little boy. sled dog racing is alot of fun and can be done with any strong/willing to run medium + sized dogs.
I also have 3 cats
A white female moggy named Tinkerbell (my husband actually named her)
A Blue male Siamese named Boots
and a Black moggy named Bruiser.
All my cats unfortunatly had to become outside cats because we found that my son is allergic to them. Poor Kitties.

has anyone heard of a flea shot for dogs? |

My cat sylvester is a bit strange. He won't drink fresh cows milk straight from the cow. He will drink powdered milk thats been mixed and he will drink shop bought milk. I wish he woiuld drink our cows milk because we always have excess.
He eats a lot of rats but he wont eat their heads. In the mornings we will often find a rats head lying in a pool of blood.
So at night he is a vicious hunter. In the day he is our gentle and kind lovely little pussy cat.
Does anybody have any ideas about his strange milk consumption habits? |

My kids love to play a game with our big dog BUZZ, who I would love to load a photo onto this blog but I don't know how to.
They have watched the movie, The LIGHTHORSEMEN, about the victory when Australian LIGHTHORSE victory over Beersheba.
So they climb over his back (without actually sitting on him), wave a stick (bayonet) and ''charge'' to Beersheba on BUZZ. It is pretty funny. Buzz doesn't really mind because he loves the attention. They are 9 and 7.
They were both very excited when I showed then a photo of their great - grandfather in a Lighthorse Uniform. |
