My name is Sheree. I have been with my partner near on 6 years.  I have two children aged 18 and 23 (check out profile page).

I am 41 and my partner is 26.  Shock horror huge age difference I met him when he was 21 and just a baby.  No seriously we get on really well, maybe Im a kid at heart..........LOL

My main reason for wanting to join this group as I know I would get sound advice from the mums and dads who have had children later on in life.

I am contemplating not even 100% sure whether I should or not.  My partner has never had any children and I wondered if it was too late for me.  I can tell you my nana had children when she was 40 and twins none the less.

I guess my main concern are health issues for mums and babies alike when carrying.  So any enlightment would really be appreciated.  I am so glad I came accross this group.

Both my children now live back in New Zealand Shannie is at university and never came to Australia but Lana moved back last year in August.  They both live with my mum, sister and brother in New Zealand.

So thats me pretty much any questions and answers would be received gratefully.

Planning a baby late in life
Hi Sheree,

Many women had babies late in life in the past when there wasn't any contraceptives.  My grandfather's mother was 46 years old when she had him and he was healthy up to his
89 th year.

My youngest daughter was born after a normal healthy pregnancy and regular delivery when
I was 46 almost 47.  She has brought so much joy to  our entire family.  We hadn't intended
to  have another child and my life has changed dramatically but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I recommend you seek advice from your doctor about your own physical capability to carry
a baby to full term.  If everything is ok there, and your relationship is strong then it comes
down to what you want.

Good luck, Shazz

Welcome to the group!

If you decide to be a late-in-life mom, know that you are part of a strong trend! More and more women are having babies in the mid-30s to mid-40s. Advanced Maternal Age (AMA) is considered to be 35 years or older. That's when the medical community starts talking about increased pregnancy complications and/or risks to the baby.

That said, I just wrote a book about being a late-in-life mom and most of the older moms I interviewed had normal babies. Several did not--their children were born with Down syndrome--but they said they would not change their child.

More on this topic later.
