You never know - maybe someday others will join. Look forward to hearing from any other expats living in Bahrain (or local Bahrainis)! Take care :)

I'm not from Bahrain (or an Expat either). What's Bahrain like? Where are you originally from (if you aren't a local Bahranian)?

Re: I seem to be the only active member living in Bahrain...

I'm from New Zealand and my husband is from England, our boys were born in NZ though.  Bahrain is great, gets hot in summer though! We live here because my husband got a job out here. We've considered going to NZ but would miss out on too much financially so are staying put for now.  Its a nice lifestyle (and a lazy one).  I get all the things I couldn't afford in NZ like spa treatments, housemaid, nanny etc. Petrol is very very cheap and so is eating at restaraunts so I enjoy living here.  We just had Ramadan (muslim holy month of daytime fasting) which is annoying because you cant eat or drink in public and get fined if you do.  But thats probably the only downside.  Driving is a bit scary too but you get used to it, the Saudi's come here to party and enjoy the prostitutes in the weekend and they drive with a deathwish so we have to watch out for them on the roads. Touch wood I've never been in an accident.  They dont wear seatbelts or put their kids in carseats either - even if they are driving 200km/hour.  They sit the babies on their knees when they are driving (not just the Saudi Arabians but most arabs it seems). There are some things like that that frustrate me but at the end of the day we accept it and frequently have to ask ourselves 'what part of the world are we in?'

Thanks for your mail and interest in Bahrain :)

Take care x

Wow, it sounds really interesting!

I suppose petrol is cheap because the area is rich in oil and you probably wouldn't have to pay tax (or much tax) on it like you would in NZ or England.
The lifestyle sounds awesome. Is it common to have both a maid and a nanny in Bahrain?

Would tourists to Bahrain get fined if they eat and drink in public?

There must be a lot of car accidents in Bahrain, it sounds a little scary! But I guess they're all used to the insane driving it and it's part of the culture...
