Recalls Heartwood Creek® Turtle Sprinklers for Laceration Hazard WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Heartwood Creek® Turtle Sprinklers

Units: About 2,600

Importer: Enesco Group Inc., of Itasca, Ill.

Hazard: When connected to a garden hose, under normal household water pressure, the sprinkler can break or shatter, presenting a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been eight reported incidents of the sprinkler breaking apart during use, including one report of a minor laceration.

Description: This recall involves the Heartwood Creek® Turtle Sprinkler. The lawn sprinkler is made of resin with a decorative turtle shell and stands about 5 1/2-inches tall and 10-inches long. The bottom of the sprinkler is printed with the item number 4005179 and the Heartwood Creek logo.

Sold at: Specialty gift stores nationwide from January 2006 through June 2006 and through QVC from April 2006 through June 2006 for about $30. QVC purchasers of this item have already received direct notice from QVC notifying them of this recall.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the sprinkler immediately, and contact Enesco for a product exchange or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Name of Product: “Cars” Toy Storage Benches

Units: About 3,000

Manufacturer: Delta Enterprise Corp., New York, N.Y.

Hazard: The red paint on the partition panels of the toy box contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The wooden toy storage box is decorated with graphics from the animated movie “Cars.” It has three removable cloth toy bins. “Delta” and the PO# are printed on the side panel. Only toy boxes with “PO#FJ505192” or “PO#FJ605042” marked on the side panel are included in this recall.

Sold exclusively at: Toys “R” Us stores from March 2006 through August 2006 for about $50.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled toy chests away from children immediately and return it to any Toys “R” Us for a credit or refund.

Hazard: The wooden rings on the stuffed toy can break, posing a small parts choking hazard to young children.

Description: The product is a baby activity toy available in various animal shapes. It consists of a soft, stuffed body with a rattle component inside the body and two smooth wooden rings attached to loops at the end of each arm. The product is available in four different styles: Rumba Lion Activity Toy with style number 58553, Gazoo Giraffe Activity Toy with style number 58554; Wango Horse Activity Toy with style number 58555, and Tippy Cow Activity Toy with style number 58556. “Woodles™” and the style number are located on the sewn-in label.

Sold by: Independent specialty toy stores nationwide and in Canada from June 2005 through April 2006 for about $12.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these toys immediately, and contact Gund for a free replacement product.

Hazard: These pacifiers failed to meet federal safety standards for pacifiers. The nipple can separate from the shield easily, posing a choking hazard. Some pacifiers were sold with necklaces that pose a strangulation hazard, and one of the necklaces has beads that can come loose, which poses an aspiration hazard. Though they are marketed for older children, they could be given to babies, and can cause serious injury or death.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The units involved are flashing pacifiers and flashing pacifiers with whistles. The pacifiers are clear or colored purple, blue, pink or green. The pacifiers have five flashing LED lights that are red and blue, red and light green and orange. Some pacifiers are sold with a rainbow cord that is attached to handles, and some cords have breakaway connectors. One pacifier has multi-colored beads on the cords in the shapes of barrels, trains, boats and various animals. Pacifiers were sold in clamshell packages. The packaging has a warning that states they are for “12+ Years” or “6+ Years.” Some of the products have a warning on the packaging that they are not a real pacifier, but a practical joke. The chart below lists additional information about the products sold and what is written on the packaging.

Importer/Distributor: RC2 Brands Inc., of Oak Brook, Ill. The recalled products are marketed under RC2’s Learning Curve and The First Years brands.

Hazard: The colored top portion of the keys can crack, resulting in the release of small parts, which poses a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: RC2 has received four reports of cracking. No injuries have been reported.

Description: “Shake ‘n Jingle Keys,” “Shake & Jingle Keys,” “My Jingle Keys” all by The First Years and the John Deere “Real Keys” are toy keys, with three colored keys attached to a blue, red or green remote control with electronic features. Various colored buttons on the remote activate sounds. Only toy keys with the letter “F” in the date code stamp listed between date codes 2015F01 through 2636F04 on the packaging and product are involved in the recall. The date code can be found on the back of the remote control. Toy keys with “TE” in the date code or yellow sides on the remote are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Department stores and independent toy stores nationwide from August 2005 through October 2006 for about $6.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled toy keys immediately and contact RC2 for a free replacement toy.

Description: The recalled PMCs are natural-colored terry cloth made of 100 percent cotton, and come in twin, full, queen, and king sizes to cover top pads made by Dux.

Sold at: PMCs were available solely through Dux-owned stores and licensed outlets from January 1999 through April 2006. The PMC was provided at no additional cost to each customer who purchased a Dux mattress pad and mattress set.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled PMCs and discard them. Dux Interiors is directly contacting consumers who received PMC covers with their mattress purchases.

Hood Issues Recall on 100% Apple Juice

HP Hood LLC of Chelsea, Massachusetts is recalling plastic half gallon and pint containers of Hood 100% Apple Juice, because it may contain undeclared milk.

The product was distributed to retail locations, distributors and institutions throughout New England (Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and Connecticut).

The product is packaged in plastic pint and half-gallon containers and has a code date of NOV 14/06 and a plant code of 2508.

Consumers who have purchased Hood 100% Apple Juice in plastic pints or half gallons with a sell by date of NOV 14/06 and a plant code of 2508 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Ballard's Farm Sausage, Inc. Recalls Egg Salad 

Ballard's Farm Sausage, Inc. of Wayne, WV, is recalling the following egg salad products -- Ballard's 12 oz. egg salad, Food City 12 oz. egg salad and Valu Time 11 oz. egg salad -- because of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes

The recalled egg salads were distributed in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, Delaware, Illinois and Florida.

The products being recalled are sold in a clear plastic cup with the description cleared displayed on the side of the cup. All of the egg salad items being recalled, the Ballard's 12 oz. egg salad, Food City 12 oz. egg salad and the Valu Time 11 oz. egg salad, will have on the side of the cup a "Best if used by 11/7/06" description.

Consumers are urged to return the egg salad items with the identification of "Best if used by 11/7/06" to their location of purchase for a full refund.

Pinnacle Foods Corporation Issues Recall of Bakery-Style Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix

Pinnacle Foods Corporation of Mountain Lakes, NJ is recalling a limited production run of Duncan Hines® Bakery-Style Chocolate Chip Muffin mix, which was manufactured by a co-packer for distribution by Pinnacle, due to an undeclared allergen (milk). This recall applies only to the following products: "DUNCAN HINES BAKERY-STYLE CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFIN MIX" with the UPC and Production Codes listed below.

The product is being recalled because the chocolate chips in the mix may contain milk protein. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

GROUND BEEF PRODUCTS RECALLED

Omaha Beef Company, Inc., a Danbury, Conn., firm, is recalling approximately 1,680 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The products subject to recall include:

  • 10-pound boxes of "HAMBURGER PATTIES, OMAHA BEEF CO., INC." 
  • Five- and 10-pound bags of "HAMBURGER, OMAHA BEEF CO., INC."

Each package bears the establishment number "Est. 2769" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the case code, "101861."

The ground beef products were produced on October 18 and were distributed to restaurants in Connecticut and several counties in southern New York State.
