Bolthouse Farms Issues Recall For 100% Carrot Juice

Wm. Bolthouse Farms of Bakersfield, CA is recalling 100% Carrot Juice. Carrot juice has the potential, if left un-refrigerated, to develop botulism, an illness which can be life-threatening. Proper refrigeration is generally achieved at or below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

100% Carrot Juice is distributed to all 50 states, Mexico & Canada through retail stores, and is labeled as follows:

"Bolthouse Farms 100% Carrot Juice", sold in both 1 liter and 450 milliliter sizes
"Earthbound Farm Organic Carrot Juice", sold in both 1 liter and 450 milliliter sizes
"President's Choice Organics 100% Pure Carrot Juice" sold in both 1 liter and 450 milliliter sizes.
Use by dates up to and including 11Nov06 are subject to this recall

Consumers or retailers who feel the temperature control of their carrot juice may have been compromised are encouraged not to consume the product. If there is any question as to the refrigeration state of any carrot juice product, consumers and retailers are advised to discard the product.

Delta Faucet

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Universal MultiChoice Valves (used in bathtubs and showers)

Units: About 105,000

Manufacturer: Delta Faucet Co., of Indianapolis, Ind.

Hazard: The device in the valve that limits the amount of hot water that can flow from the shower head or bathtub spout can disengage after being manually set, causing consumers to come in contact with water that is hotter than expected. This poses a risk of scalding injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: Delta Faucet has six reports of incidents with the valve. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The Universal Multichoice Valves were sold under the Delta brand name. The valves are used in bathtubs and showers to regulate the temperature of the water flow. The valves are located inside the shower head or bathtub spout.

Sold to: Commercial plumbers and building subcontractors nationwide from March 2006 to May 2006 and in Indiana and Ohio from October 2005 to May 2006. Plumbing packages containing the valve cartridges sold for between $80 and $200 and separate replacement valve cartridges were sold for about $30.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the bathtub and shower heads with the recalled valves immediately. Delta is contacting consumers with the recalled valves to provide them with a free upgrade kit. Consumers should always test the water temperature before entering a tub or shower. Contact Delta Faucet if you do not receive an upgrade kit.

Name of Product: Home Trends Wood Footstools

Units: About 165,000

Importer: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark.

Hazard: Due to improper construction, the stool can break and collapse, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Wal-Mart has received nine reports of the footstools breaking. There have been seven reports of injuries, including a broken toe, neck and shoulder soreness, cuts, bruises, swelling, a slight concussion, and whiplash.

Description: The footstool is a natural-colored wood footstool. The standing surface is 11 1/2-inches by 11 1/2-inches with a 4-inch-long oval opening in the center. The stool is 11 1/2-inches tall. The recalled footstool can be identified by a white sticker underneath the step that contains the UPC number 87065900001.

Sold at: Wal-Mart stores exclusively nationwide from December 2005 through September 2006 for about $10.

Manufactured in: Malaysia

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Description: The pink cardigan is sold as part of a three-piece set which also includes a light pink turtleneck and denim pants. The cardigan has a pink ribbon woven around the neckline. Minnie Mouse is embroidered on the lower left front of the cardigan. The cardigan was sold in sizes 12M, 18M, 24M, 3T, 4T, and 5T.

Sold exclusively at: Wal-Mart stores nationwide from July 2006 through August 2006 for about $15.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled cardigan away from children immediately and return the entire three-piece set to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Description: The recalled kits include plastic ears, eyes, noses, mouth, hands, shoes, hats, eyeglasses and jewelry that are used to decorate Halloween pumpkins. The recall includes Mr. Potato Head “Make a Monster Pumpkin” and “Make a Fireman Pumpkin” and Mrs. Potato Head “Make a Diva Pumpkin.” The products are labeled for ages 2 and older. Products with small parts intended for children under 3 years old are prohibited due to a choking hazard.

Starbucks Announces Recall of 8-Cup Coffee Brewers

Name of Product: Starbucks Barista Aroma™ Stainless Steel 8-Cup Coffee Brewers

Units: About 73,000

Distributor: Starbucks Coffee Company, of Seattle, Wash.

Hazard: The coffee brewer has defective electrical wiring that can result in overheating, smoking, burning and melting, posing a possible fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Starbucks has received 23 reports of melting in the plastic housing of the brewers. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall includes the Starbucks Barista Aroma 8-Cup Coffee Brewer only. “Starbucks Barista Aroma” is embossed on the front of the brewer and the brewer has silver control panel buttons and a chrome finish. The Starbucks Barista Grande 12-Cup Coffee Brewer and Starbucks Barista Solo Coffee Brewers are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Starbucks company-owned and operated stores nationwide between March 2005 and September 2006 for about $100.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled coffee brewers immediately and contact Starbucks for a full refund. Consumers will receive a postage-paid package along with instructions on how to return their brewer. Starbucks is also offering a coupon (valid through 1/31/07) for a free pound of coffee as an incentive to return the recalled machine.

Name of Product: Carabiners used for climbing

Hazard: These carabiners have a green button that acts as a safety mechanism to prevent unlocking. The recalled carabiners can unlock unexpectedly without pressing the green button, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall involves the M34 BL Am’D Ball-Lock and M36 BL William Ball Lock carabiners with metal locking sleeves. Carabiners with batch number between 06076 and 06178 are included in the recall. The batch number is engraved on the spine of the carabiner. The recall does not include Ball Lock carabiners having a plastic locking sleeve.

Sold at: Petzl dealers nationwide from March 2006 through July 2006 for about $13 for the Am’D model and about $17 for the William model.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled carabiners immediately, and contact Petzl America to have their carabiners inspected and to receive a free replacement, if necessary.

Hazard: The small felt fabric cookie attached to the plush toy’s hand can be removed easily and ingested by young children, posing a choking hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries or incidents have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Baby Cookie Monster plush toy packaged with certain Sesame Beginnings Make Music Together DVDs. The blue plush toy has a small, felt fabric cookie attached to its hand. The plush toy and DVD are packaged in a yellow and green box with the words “Sesame Beginnings” and “Make Music Together” printed on the front. The product is labeled for children ages 6 months and up.

Sold: Exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from March 2006 to July 2006 for about $15.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Using scissors, consumers should immediately remove the felt cookie and its connecting thread from the plush toy. Once detached, the felt cookie and thread should be disposed of immediately.
