Love it - but too much

by katiepiattComment Published at 23:1723:1710 comments10 comments268 Visits268 VisitsReport
Have been Minti-ing for a while while, and although i love it - I still find there's just too much and too many places to keep up with. If I don't spot something on the homepage, it's too easy to miss. I don't think the Lounge and Forums server much purpose - I think personal blogs, advice, Q&A and groups are plenty. The watchlist really helps, but it should link to the real article so you can see things in context... I can't remember now what the pening question was now, so will go back and re-read it - sorry - I've been up since 5:30am so not in the most positive mood! katie

Watch list

I was certainly going to suggest that the watch list produces the whole article or blog so that we can read the whole thing. That way we can see whe can decide whether we want to ctach up on that item and know what the comments are about. I have often scratched my head trying to work out what a comment on the list relates to!

Agree with Katie that there is a little too much to stay on top of. I think I would like to see the recent activity have an option to show me all the all what has happened since I last logged on, bar voting. I would actually prefer that to a watch list, myself. I'm sure I have missed lots of things by being away for more than a few hours, and a recent activity like this would mean I wouldn't have to search all over the place to find things out.

I'm not sure that I see the difference between forums and group conversations. Perhaps boost the image of conversations and lose forums. But then again, I am confused by the difference between a group blog and conversation. They seem to end up being the same thing. All three seem to do the same function in different places. Streamlining is called for, I think.

Well, I win, Katie. Been up since 0450, having managed a sum total of four hours sleep last night. Bless the little baby (and my inability to get to bed early)...

RE: feedback on Minti user testing...
Hi Helen,
More great advice! You are full of ideas!!!
  1. from what you have said i think you will like the watch list improvements we have planned for the watch list.
  2. are you aware of the latest activity full list page? Isn't this an easy way to see what has happened recently? Let me know if this doesn't solve your concern.
  3. i hear you about the confusion between conversations v blogs v forums. we will be discussing this.

blog vs. consersation

I was going to mention the same thing. I have found in my groups that everyone seems more comfortable using the blog because it's more visible and people just checking in on the group see the blog first. I have found that my attempts at converstaions where they are supposed to go pretty much get ignored (and perhaps unseen). Maybe you can do without one of those since they seem to serve the same purpose.

Also, in our lounges, are we supposed to delete things as they lose urgency or the person of the homepage doesn't want them up any more because they are old posts or whatever? The lounge thing is nice idea BUT there are too many places to post things. I'm not sure what is supposed to go where. Most of the lounge stuff looks to me like they could be emails. Hmmm.

Just thoughts.

yes - tend to agree about the blog v conversations.
i still like the lounge - its a private area for just friends, but am certainly open to hear more views about this :)

blog vs. conversation
For groups, I think since the blog is the first thing people see, they end up using it more than the conversation. However, in my opinion, conversation is better to use because it shows the list of topics (like in forums). So a new comer (if they can find the conversation) can click on it and browse through the topics and go wherever they want to go. This is not true for blogs. The old blogs will just get drowned out and the only way to search for it is to go through the calendar and look through the blog title & blog body.

just one more thing in relation to all this... we intend one day to have a search for each blog.

RE: Watch List improvements

I totally agree. I don't use them because I end up having to click all over everywhere anyway.

It would be great to have the enitre post! GREAT IDEA!
