| A place to post ideas for what to do on a rainy day be it crafts or indoor places to visit.

Hi all.
I am appealing for all your festive craft ideas as here in the UK it is winter and although it has been a mild one we are now getting the rainy and wet weather (unlike you lucky folk in Oz!) so if you have an arty idea for a decoration or one that you have already made then please let us know and post your ideas here (I for one could do with some inspiration).
Thank you

Amy and I are making our own christmas cards, I covered a plain piece of paper in Pva glue and then let Amy loose with glitter, Sparkly paper (that I had used a punch to cut into stars). The result is a piece of paper covered in glitter and stars every colour of the rainbow. We did several glitter pictures (A4) and let them dry over night so today I will cut these into small squares and mount them onto some blank white cards (that I brought from a craft store). I will then write a christmas message inside in gold pen. Hopefully once they are done I will be able to scan them so I can put a picture on here (at the moment my scanner is being a bit stubborn).
I really like the idea of homemade cards especially done by children they make a lovely keepsake and give you something to do on a wet day. |

A good idea is also allowing your child to make a card, picture, scrapbook (depending on age) by having scissors that only cut paper and non-toxic glue. |

Hello, I am a Care giver for Children, I often Care give for an older and a younger Sibbling there fore I have to try and make up good ideas that will not bore the older Sibbling. SOOO We dress up in all of Our rain gear on go for a nature walk, it is so beautiful and I show all the birds flying around or sitting in a tree having a shower and cleanning them selves as They would do in the shower. They find it so interesting all the worms that come out from the earth but OOPS!! be care ful as those birdies have Their eyes on You..... Then to warm up We go Home and make play dough and store up on Our jelly pops for those hot summers days. 1) PLAY DOUGH... 1 cup of flour, half c salt, 2tbsp cream of tarter, 1 cup of water.combine in sauce pan and cook over medium heat stirring constantly untill thick. Store in sealed container, and the Children love holding the warm dough. 2) Kaths Jelly Pops. You will need 1 package of flavored gelatin, 1 cup of hot water, 2 cups of fruit juice, tooth picks or popsicle sticks, muffin tin or ice cube trays.. STEPS.. 1) Boil water and mix with flavored gelatin untill it is disolved 2) Add orange juice and stir 3) Pour gelatin and juice mixture into muffin tins or ice cube tray 4) Refrigerate for about an hour 5) Insert tooth picks or popsicle sticks place in freezer until solid. A great place to visit on a rainy day is Brighton Sealife centre. Its all under cover and the children will love looking at all the different sea creatures. Amy gets transfixed in the tunnel she loves it. It can be a bit expensive but you find that come the school holidays that quite a few local supermarkets give away discount entry flyers. |

Once I surprised my son by telling him that we're going to have picnic, but it was rainy day. I said it's special picnic. I cut some fruits, made some sandwiches, and put the blanket in the lounge room. I said we're going to have picnic here, we could listened to the rain, but we wouldn't get wet. He was excited, our pretend picnic with his toys end up to be a great time. If we had thunder we count the interval between them. |

My kids love to make a cubby out of bed sheets, we have our lunch in there and cups of tea (pretend), read books and just be silly, at the end of the day they never want me to pull it down |

My kids both loved making a "bird's nest" on a rainy day. You take an armful of blankets and quilts and together arrange them into a circle with a nice nesting place in the center. place your "baby bird" in the middle and circle up the blankets some more. My kids loved being the baby bird. Once they were in their nest, I would be sure to feed them little snacks by hand and tweet-tweet with them for a little while. After awhile we'd watch a movie from our birds nest or read books. Family favorite. |

Amy & I like to make pictures out of fabric, you can order samples of fabric from websites of companies that make curtains, blinds soft furnishings etc ( I used some of the bigger samples to make fabric bunting for Amy's birthday party) I cut them up into different shapes and Amy glues them on to paper, she likes to feel all the different textures and when it is dry we put it up where she can still touch it. |

I had this idea as today is a very wet day in Brighton, East Sussex. so as I don't drive, Amy and I will be indoors all day but that doesn't mean we have to sit in front of the T.V all day, I really enjoy arts & crafts so we usually get the paints, glitter and glue out and spend the day making wonderful things for our Display Door ( a place where we put our latest works of art).
So if you have any ideas on things to make or places to visit on a rainy day then please feel free to post your ideas here for us all to share. Lets keep rainy days fun! |
