poly cystic ovaries

by torrensmummaComment Published at 16:5116:513 comments3 comments665 Visits665 VisitsReport
I have been trying for a little over three years to conceive a second child, I suffer from PCOS. I gained alot of weight because of it and am slowly losing weight again my period is getting back to "normal". I was wondering if anyone else had PCOS and could give me tips that didn't involve going to the dr and getting medication.

hi!
yes l have this too, i found out about 20 months ago. i was given tests and ultrasounds and then placed on fertilty tablets, at first no success, then i asked what if nothing happens and my dr said (IVF). Anyway he gave me Diaformin as well for the insulin because you have to watch what you eat and make sure you keep an eye on ur diet as weight affects the process of getting pregant. Do u want to know more??

Hi!  I agree with wolonfab...

I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance after my first child, when I was extremely tired and could not lose weight at all.

My first 2 pregnancies resulted in miscarriages and it took me another 18 months to conceive again.  I had started to think we would never have children and had slipped into depression.  When we stopped 'trying' and tried to sort out my other issues, I fell at last!  I was so paranoid something would go wrong and, though I had a difficult pregnancy and an emergency caesar, I ended up with my gorgeous boy (three years after we first started trying).

He was a difficult baby and I was not in a hurry to go through it all again, and kept telling people that  it could be a while to baby number 2 bearing in mind how long one had taken us...  In fact i told my best friend that we are blessed to have one and I was not sure I should push it! However shortly before my son's second birthday I decided it was time - and within three months I was pregnant!  I had a great pregnancy and a 'natural' birth and a beautiful girl.

So - there is hope for you!  It can take a long time and be a struggle, but never give up hope!  My  biggest hurdle was losing weight - which I have done (about 15kg) and last blood test my insulin levels are normal.  (However now my weight is creeping up again...  )

Anyway, I would follow all the above advice as it did make a difference to us - and follow a low GI diet.  I also cut out all household chemicals and as many food chemicals as possible.  If there is anything else I can help with, feel free to email me!  Best wishes on your journey!

I too have pcos.
I too have pcos..... and have had 2 kids thank goodness after being told it would never happen without help.......It did take 3 yrs to get pregnant with my first son and 3.5 yrs later my daughter was born.........I watched what i ate and tried to get alot of walking in.....

many women with PCOS have high insulin levels or their body does not use insulin efficiently,  Normalizing insulin levels has  helped some women regulate periods and promote ovulation. many have found it easier to get pregnant the second time around. some women have found that their menstrual cycles regulate themselves after a pregnancy......I dont have periods  at all..... and haven't had them properly ever...i am 30 , not overweight and was diagnosed 13 years ago..

Some Natural tips to help

A healthy diet
means eating foods that are whole, fresh, and organic. Minimize consumption of refined, processed or fabricated foods. Minimize fast foods. Eat foods with a lower Glycaemic index... Lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and legumes. Best animal proteins are fish and poultry. What you eat has a profound effect on the hormones that govern your fertility.

Exercise and be physically active. Exercise helps you to lose weight and balance your insulin and testosterone levels, thus improving your odds of ovulating and getting pregnant.

Clean up your insides. Consider a cleansing diet to remove any accumulated toxic material from your body. Naturopathic physicians specialize in safe, effective detoxification protocols.

Use nutritional supplements.  Supplementation should contribute to your overall health, help you to balance your hormones, and to have a healthier baby if you become pregnant. Also they say accupuncture can help if done right...

Use herbal medicines. Herbal medicines have been used for centuries to enhance fertility. For example, chasteberry has been used to normalize menstrual cycles and improve fertility. do not  self-prescribe herbal medicines. consult with a licensed naturopathic physician  trained in herbal medicine.

Educate yourself about how to optimize conception. You're more likely to become pregnant if you know exactly when you are ovulating and when you should have intercourse.

Probably haven't really helped alot..... But trust me it can happen... I am proof that you can get pregnant no matter what the doctors say My thoughts are with you.....
