Some Advice Please

by sliminsideComment Published at 13:0213:022 comments2 comments41 Visits41 VisitsReport

Hi all i`m new to this site so a big HELLO, I have a 5 year old son who is just great, and a 11 month old baby girl, my wee girl is a sweet heart always smilling and happy, as she`ll be 1 in a couple of weeks i`m looking for a few new ideas for lunch time feeds, so far she only eats fruit and yogurt for lunch so any ideas would be great, also she is still sleeping in our room in her cot not our bed, all the top teeth are coming through at the one time so she`s a little tearful during the night but i`m planning to put her in her own room over the christmas period as both my son and hubby will be on holiday so if she makes a fuss they wont be at school or work so if anyone can give me a few tips on how to go about getting her in her room that would be great as i dont want to get it all wrong and she end up not wanting to go into her room at all.

Many thanks.

baby girl food!

hi sliminside,

for your 11 month old baby, you could do little things like:

cubes or slices of cheese, a couple of crackers and some raw vegetables (her budding gums will thank you!) obviously make sure it's stuff she won't choke on!

kids love to play with their food so tactile things like some spaghetti and toast is loads of fun (i suggest putting down a drop sheet under the high chair LOL) - not good for when you have a busy day, but for when you've the time to supervise this fun lunch.

little sandwich triangles are also good to start them with. you can make all kinds of different fillings.

with getting her into her own room, start by gently introducing her to the space - take her in with you and maybe sing some songs, or play little games. you want her to associate happy feelings with that space, so she is comfortable and relaxed in there. maybe after her bath, pop her on the changing table (if you've one in there) and give her a baby massage before you get her dressed.

if you've got a comfy chair in there, sit with her snuggled up and read to her or talk to her, or show her things in her room that will be hers - "this is your new bed, this is your window, etc..."

another thing to do is start her with a daytime nap in the new room - make it as special & welcoming as you can - pretty baby music, dimmed lights, that kind of thing. eventually she'll want to go there - welcome every opportunity that sees her crawling to her room. once she identifies it as a good space to be in, she'll LOVE it, and the transition will be a lot easier.

hope that helps! x
