My daughter

My daughter is very bright and very active. She needs to learn to slow down a little as she likes to do things at full speed. She has a blood disorder that can be a little bit dangerous especially mixed with her energetic personality. she is eight years old

my daughter misses her mum

by WallyOzComment Published at 19:5919:595 comments5 comments20 Visits20 VisitsReport
i'm a single dad with a 6yr old girl. Her mother lives 800km away and only sees her during school holidays (ie every 3 months).
I try to get her mother to see her more, but i just keep wasting oxygen.
It seems about 2 months after she last sees her mum, she starts getting whingy, plays up a little, and the pants wetting starts up again. Every time something upsets her (as in discipline or trying to get her to clean her room), i get "i miss mum" and a whole bunch of tears and sometimes a tantrum (usually a well mannered girl - always happy).
I'm also getting edgy by that time as not having a break and working full time kind of wears you down, and i'm sick of saying "serenity now".
I dont want to take her to a shrink, but i cant let it carry on much longer. Its not fair on her.
Does anyone have any ideas or information about this? I've tried talking to her, explaining to her, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and nothing has worked.
Thanks for your help

school troubles

by wertyntComment Published at 05:5705:578 comments8 comments33 Visits33 VisitsReport

are there any other parents whose kids have had problems in transition or whatever the start of school is called for you?

my daughter went walkabout for over an hour on her second day of school outside school grounds, a very terrifying experience for parents.

she also has a speech problem, which she will be gettingcontinued speech therapy for.

and recently she had an incident at school where she kicked another girl, totally out of character for her, but she admitted to doing it as she couldnt get her own way.

just wondered if anyone else had any problems or suggestions on how to handle this type if behaviour?
