When I was pregnant with my daughter we couldn't settle on a name but we both knew that we wanted something uncommon, but not stupid.
Enter the American TV show 'The Gilmore Girls'. It was in it's first season in Australia and as soon as we heard the name Lorelai we knew that we had found the perfect name.
It took my family a awhile to get used to it, especially mum as she had called her children all by traditional names. But they soon warmed up to it and now everyone says what a beautiful name and even go on the give the meaning of the name (to my suprise).
The only downfall is that I don't want it to be abbreviated to 'Lorry or Lori' at school as it sounds like a truck that carts wood if you know what I mean. My Nan and Father in law call her Lolli for short and I'm ok with that. The other thing is that you can't walk into a novelty shop and by a keyring or hairbrush etc with her name on it because it is not a common name. |
