Thankyou to 'The Gilmore Girls'

by missyTComment Published at 01:1901:192 comments2 comments41 Visits41 VisitsReport

When I was pregnant with my daughter we couldn't settle on a name but we both knew that we wanted something uncommon, but not stupid.

Enter the American TV show 'The Gilmore Girls'. It was in it's first season in Australia and as soon as we heard the name Lorelai we knew that we had found the perfect name.

It took my family a awhile to get used to it, especially mum as she had called her children all by traditional names.  But they soon warmed up to it and now everyone says what a beautiful name and even go on the give the meaning of the name (to my suprise).

The only downfall is that I don't want it to be abbreviated to 'Lorry or Lori' at school as it sounds like a truck that carts wood if you know what I mean.  My Nan and Father in law call her Lolli for short and I'm ok with that.  The other thing is that you can't walk into a novelty shop and by a keyring or hairbrush etc with her name on it because it is not a common name.

Re: Thankyou to 'The Gilmore Girls'

I actually worked for an American women living in Australia who was older than me when I was 21 years old before the show came on and her name is Lorellai & I too loved it the first time I heard it. However my husband says NO to all my suggestions, just lucky I came into our relationship with a name in mind and told him my first born daughter will be called Ailish-jayde so if he doesn't want it for his he'd better find someone else to have one with LOL.... wish I'd had a second choice as we're expecting again and this kid will be picking his/her own name the way we're going LOL.  I also  love Rory from The gilmore Girls for either biy or girl, but have been shot down yet again... sigh.
