Stupid question.......time difference

That is not a stupid question.. when I moved to Canada from Australia my favorite question that most people asked me was...... "Do you speak Australian?"  I had trouble keeping a straight face when answering this because they were being serious...

Here in Quebec we are 16 hours behind the state of Victoria....  When I want to know what the time is there I just add two hours and a day... When our daylight savings here finishes I add four hours and a day....

I get that speak Australian thing all the time.

I always remember that not everyone is as fortunate to travel as we are.

It is so hard to keep a straight face...  The first time I was asked this question I had only just arrived here in Quebec and the person that asked me was speaking French.  You should have seen my husbands face as he translated the question. He was having trouble not smiling himself...

Stupid question.......time difference

This also means that when we leave Australia on the 8th of January (we are going back in December for a visit) we will arrive in Canada also on the 8th of January... Meaning my husbands birthday will be one long plane flight....

Also I have lost one day off my life moving to Canada, and if I want it back I will have to move back to Australia to once again gain one more day of life....

My birthday is no longer in the summer time, so I confuse people when they ask were you born in the summer time or the winter.. To this I reply the summer... They say me too...  Then I tell them my birthday is in January.. I just love the look on their faces when they try to figure this one out.. It usually does not take to long for them to realize the seasons are also different...

For me it depends on what computer I am on.

Australia is almost a day ahead (+18hrs)  of the USA.

Timezones are near on as bad as currency exchange rates when traveling.

Timezones on Linux
If you use KDE Desktop on Kubuntu Linux you have a integrated time zone system which can be adjusted to display as many timezones as you want. http://www.kubuntu.org/ (The kids are asleep so it is geek time)

Stupid question.......time difference

Take a look at www.timeticker.com as there are different time zones within both countries so it makes it very difficult to specify exactly what the time difference is.

All depends on which city you are in. Australia, like the US, is a pretty big place (a 4.5 hour flight from one side to the other) and as such there is a 3 hour time difference from coast to coast (although to add extra confusion this changes to 2 hours, for a part of the year, because of "daylight saving").

In a nutshell, though you guys are about a half to three quarters of a day behind Australia - which I guess is why we know more than you do ;-)

Stupid question.......time difference

I was looking on my computer and I think Australia has different time zones. Where you have the time displayed on the bottom right hand corner, i double clicked on it and the calendar comes up.. then there's a spot for "time zone" you can look through there.. I saw Perth on the time zone.. it dont show all of Australia though.. I just saw Perth and I knew that was a part of it...

Then it depends on what part of the US you are in(for the time difference).. I know I was talking to someone from Australia last year and he was 14 hrs ahead of me and I'm in Mountain Time(Canada) and he was in Sydney Australia I think. If I remember correctly.
