trying to get our "little one" off to high school. Worried about the change. The older one transformed literally overnight. Hoping the other won't do the same - she's such a wonderful kid.

starting Highschool
My eldest starts highschool January 31st 2007, she is 12 years old and already has an attitude when she comes home from her dads, I'm hoping highschool will make her take a step back (she is the only one from her primary school going there) and realise that she is still a child and needs to respect me as her mother, her teachers and the older children in the school. She has also started going through puberty and unfortunately so to has my 11 yr old daughter.

my son started  high school and yes this summer he changed ,he's fine as long as we don't tak to him like a parent and don't say no to him then all hell breaks loose,he swears and his temper is awfull. In the summer one arguament ended up with him punching a hole through the wall which we made him fix!!thers a lot of help and support for rising the little ones but nothing much for communicating with teenagers.

I can't believe it !!! it is almost as though you discribed my son to a tee !.  He will be 17 in December and you just do not say NO.  I'm a single mom and I have a 15 year old daughter and my mom living with me, so needless to say he thinks he is the man of the house and he is going to tell me what to do.   I DON"T THINK SO

Thanks for letting me know that there are other parents out there that are going through the same thing.  I thought because I was a single mom I was doing someting wrong...

My daughter is in 11th grade this year, thier are a lot of challenges when they become this age, but remember keep talking I've found that leaving the lines of comuncation open has really helped. no is a hard word for them stick with it , they will have tandrums but after awhile it starts to sink in. no is still a hard word for my daughter to hear.teens seem to have a new challenge for mom and dad weekly, but stick with it, it will get easier. if you need to talk I am here,

I know what you mean!

My daughter starts high school next year and I hope she stays her lovely self too. I'm lucky in the fact that she is grounded and has good self knowledge. I have been talking to her about pier pressure, groups that girls and boys tend to form, and basically going over the facts of life, relationships that form, what true friendship is, how high school is different from primary school with scheduals, work loads, also the fact the in year 7 they are in the top classes but next year they become the lower classes. Anything i can think of to help her prepare for next year. Hope this helps in some way.
