Hmmm

Well I must say that none of my three boys are circumcised. I just didn't see the point in going through the pain (I know they don't realise - I mean my pain watching and knowing it was done). My husband IS circumcised, and with family it is a religious thing to get it done, but I feel that if you teach them correctly how to maintain themselves, there is no need. If the need ever does arise, we will deal with it then.

My View on this

by Libby24Comment Published at 18:5418:541 comments1 comments87 Visits87 VisitsReport
I know alot of people have a very strong view on this as they say if you do it to a male then do it to a female as well. i see no medical reason to do this to a female but I hade my son circumcised at 6 weeks. But before you judge me by it, my resons are that my dad had to have it at 23 and he said it was the worst pain he had ever had (the infection not the op). when i walked in to the doctors to get this done to my son after coping flack from 90% of my family including my dad, the doc took one look at alex's fore skin and it tore and bleed. I had to have it done in the end. But my husband is and his father is and so on in the family, so to my husband it is a family tradition where in mine it is a nessesity. but also living in australia where it is very hot it is safer for a male to be circumcised.

I thought we better discuss this. I found the original study done that was published in the Public Library of Science (PLoS), Randomized, Controlled Intervention Trial of Male Circumcision for Reduction of HIV Infection Risk: The ANRS 1265 Trial.

Why?

I just wrote an article on this issue:

http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/666/The-Case-Against-Circumcision/?page=1#4757

So, parents who chose to circ....knowing it's medically unecessary, do you mean to say you are ok with performing cosmetic surgery on newborns for purely social reasons? Where is that line drawn when it's NOT ok?

For parents who believe it's a parents choice period...at what point in harming your child is it NOT your choice? Where is that line drawn, also? Let's just keep the issue to surgery...is it ok to perform surgery on your infant daughter to close her vaginal opening to ensure she remains a virgin, if that is something that socially or religiously is important to the parent?
