first topic teachers vs parents
inspired by here
Being a homeschooling parent i am always curious with regards to this particular ongoing debate... believe me when i say i truly believe it's a sad thing for a parent to watch their child go through... constantly being put in the too hard basket is totally unfair and is not deserved by any child...
Here is the pressing question though, why is it that no one even recognises the other perspective... i considered posting "walk a day in a teachers shoes" but obviously there would be ramifications of that, not something i want to bring to another members blog when she is hurting so much, although my reasons for posting that would be just. Teachers have to deal with every extreme and i tire of reminding people there is a distinct difference between being a parent and a teacher... it's their job (their work) to teach all the students the content of the cirriculum in their class (thats it) not to be a nuturing parent (ie. it's not their life, it's their job)... i know this may seem harsh and slightly cold but it is a truth that many parents simply do not realise... In my situation being both i have gained a new understanding of the sheer amout of work required to teach one child, times that by average 25 students per class and then organising all those little people, personalities and moral values into something that resembles order and they have their hands full believe me... my ignorance of the reference members entire situation here has put me some what in the dark but why, is a child who requires extra and specialised care in a mainstream class? and how can anyone expect a mainstream teacher to cope with a child they are not trained to teach? (both are questions directed at the school, not the parent) i realise that parents of those special children need a place to vent and gain moral support (at the very least we require recognition of our sacrifices and our efforts in general, it makes us human after all) it just saddens me that the blame has been put on a teacher for something that is not their fault. (something that should have been delt with by the school) Teachers are not subsitute parents it really is something that the greater community of parents and authority figures in the school community need to realise before balme like this is placed. In conclusion for my side of this debate the average teacher can spend up to 17min of one on one time with each student in their class, thats not what they want to spend but all they have time for...
