Re: Just thought of this and I will prob kick myself when I find out the answer
Hmmm, All these special day's seem to be Independance Day's. So Britain having been the Empire Builder, and having no need of Independance, it could perhaps, have "A How We Got our Butt Kicked Out Day".LOL. Just a thought, from a Brit.

In Malaysia we have Merdeka Day. Merdeka means freedom or independence... it's basically celebrating the day that we weren't under the British powers any more.... or at least the Malaysian peninsular wasn't. The states of Sarawak and Sabah joined a few years later.

England doesn't have a nations day unfortunately, terrible I know. We have St George's day, but nobody actually celebrates it really. I vote we should have one! Em x
Re: Just thought of this and I will prob kick myself when I find out the answer
yeah but do you realize that st george day isnt just exclusive to england . greeks always celebrate all different saints day and i am of greek heritage so i know this for a fact. we celebrate st georges day april 23rd. in fact we celebrate it in our hosehold because its my husbands name day.
the idea behind a national day should be something significant only to that country for example independence day is celebrated in america and greece different dates of course signifying the meaning of independence .
i know there is a voting campaign going on in england to recognize st georges day as they are comparing it to st patricks day that is celebrated by the irish
ireland have their national day on march 17 to celebrate feast day for saint patrick

Re: Just thought of this and I will prob kick myself when I find out the answer
Yes thats right good old George slayed a hideous fire breathing dragon.. good on him! We do have some events for queen's official birthday, the trooping of the colour, but we don't get the day off work or anything. I think I should start a campaign to have one!
