Hi!  I am a mum of 2 gorgeous children - one emergency c-section in 2003 and one VBAC in 2006.  I notice a lot of questions lately on vbacs and c-sections, so I came across this group and thought I'd join it.  2 things I learned in my births - 1 that I am a lot stronger than I gave myself credit for - physically and emotionally - and 2 that it is your connection with your baby that matters - however they are born (although I have to say that for me the vbac was an easier recovery and connection).  No matter what happens though it is important to heal yourself and your emotions - and for some of us that takes time - and some births are quicker for that to happen than others.  Ok - I'll stop rambling now, but drop in and say hi! 

well thats the question i know they've left it late 36 wks!!!! and its dicussion time tomorrow but so far with them being well kak i want to ensure i dont just get fobbed off so what sld i expect at this app what sld they be doing and what sld i be saying to them to mk sure the docs an us mk the best desition all rd?

i know there most likely going to encourage a vbac but they refuse to tell me size of this baby which means i cant decode if i want to go for an elective section

will they need to do a scan to confirm babys size and could a scan tell them if my womb has moved since mac and if my tilted pelvis cld cause complications with a vbac....i know its confusing lol

but i think how are they going to give me good advice if they dont know and will tehy even bother doing half the checks they sld?

I just wanted to share my experiences on c-sections. Well I have a baby girl who turns 1 in Feb and she is such an angel. Anyway i had her through an emergency c-section because of pre-eclampsia. I was 30 weeks pregnant at the time so as u can imagine, she was the teeniest little tiny wee baby girl weighing only 930grams.

Anyways short version. The only cure for Pre-eclampsia was an emergency c-section also coz my baby was hardly moving, kicking, etc in my tummy. The doctors were so swift in everything, they explained every little detail of what was going on and that my baby was going to be fine. I had total trust in them. So my baby was born, crying her lungs out (to everyones surprise). She went straight to N.I.C.U where she stayed for 8 weeks until she was 2 kgs and well enough to feed on her own (without tubes). My experiance was surreal but we made it through and thank god (and the doctors of course!) my little tiny 930gram angel is now a 10kilo bundle of joy.

I would have loved to go throught the whole 40 weeks and experience a natural birth but i guess i could try next time around. Maybe this was what God had planned.

ok im 15wks and huge lol and im really not worrying too much about how this little bundles going to arrive im seeing a doc at the end of jan but in the mean time im itching...the scar and the ones inside its driving me crazy its like i can fell my belly streaching by the second so i thought i could try some cream externally but how about inside what mks it stop its like being pinned down and ticked 24/7 lol

Well, you asked for it Jo! Sorry it's taken me so long - I've actually written this 3 times & lost it!

I went to my Doc a day overdue & he stretched/ripened my cervix as he had told me he would if I made it to the appointment. He told us that my pelvis was very narrow and he thought I was going to have trouble. He gave us the option of booking a c-section then or being induced the next week (if I didn't go before) and trying. I really wanted to try a natural birth so he said that was fine but he'd only let me go for 12 hours at the most. That afternoon I started feeling like I needed to pee all the time. Hubby was back at work but my little sister was here and I had no pain - just thought my bladder had had enough. This went on all day & night (no sleep!) and at 10am the next day mum rang. I told her about it (it had stopped by now) and she told me to ring the hospital (we are half an hour from the nearest town). I rang and they told me to come in and get checked out so I rang hubby & he came home & drove us in. They asked if I had any pains when I got there & I said no just an annoying period like pain - really nothing - and the midwife told me that was contractions - they didn't hurt so I thought nothing of it! She did a swab which she said would turn blue if my waters had broken, it didn't but we found out later that it had been my waters. The doctor turned up about 4 hours after we got there & did his examination & told us he thought I could go home. I wasn't comfortable leaving because of the distance we are away & the road is terrible! Eventually he said we could stay & he'd be back in 2 hours. Half an hour after he left I was on the excersize ball, backwards on the chair - you name it - the contractions had really kicked in & it was all in my back (I hardly showed so we figured bub was laying back there!). The doc (who was not my normal doc - he wasn't on duty!) came back 3 1/2 hours later, did an internal & I was 3 1/2cm dialated. We told him that my doc had told us my pelvis was narrow, he didn't seem to care much. At 9pm the mw gave me 2 panadeine forte and a sleeping tablet & told me to try and get some sleep cause I was going to need it! Ten minutes later my mum turned up (she was to be there with us for the birth) and asked if I was ok, said I looked like I was going to be sick. I told her I was fine, the all of a sudden wanted to throw up - and I did! Called the mw & she said we better go to the labour room as I wasn't going to get any rest! She gave me some maxolon to stop the vomiting (which I needed a few more times!) and off we went. She gave me the gas when we settled in, it didn't help with the pain but it made me breath throught the contractions properly. The doctor turned up some time later when all was in full swing & did his internal & told the mw to give me some pethidine. I had said I didn't want anything so she told him this, but by this stage I needed something so I said I'd have it! It just took the edge off for me so I couldhandle it a bit better. I ended up sitting in the shower with the water on my back - I thought for 20 minutes but hubby tells me it was over an hour - and it was fantastic! Some time early in the morning the pethidine wore right off & I asked for an epidural, the mw did and internal and said I couldn't have anything as I was 9 1/2cm dialated. Soon after she told me it was time to push - I never had the urge - so I pushed - for and hour and a half! My contractions stopped as my body was too exhausted, then the doctor turned up. He did an internal, spoke to the mw & told me he was going to put me on a drip to start the contractions again so he could try the vontous (suction cap), and if that didn't work it would be a c-section. I told him I didn't want the drip, just do the c-section as I had been told my pelvis was too narrow. He refused! He said he would not do a c-section until he had tried everything else. We went into the theatre, mum couldn't come in as only 1 person allowed, the drip hadn't really bought the contractions back so the mw had her hand on my tummy telling me when to push while the tried the vontous. After the second go it came off bubs head & I said enough, no more! Doc said I had to try once more - nothing, bub was well and truly stuck! Now the c-section. Hubby said the look of relief on my face when they put the spinal block in was amazing - he reckons I smiled! He tapped my hand the whole way through thinking I was falling asleep, the relief from the pain was instant and amazing! When they pulled our little boy out hubby was watching, trying to see if it was a boy or girl. He was flacid and cold so the took him straight to the table. James went with them to make sure he was ok - no cry or anything, I didn't even see him! When they were sure he was ok James went out to tell mum & they wrapped him up & held him up to my face for a few minutes. Then they had to take hime out. He had to be put in the humidicrib as he was too cold & when I got to recovery they put him on my chest as they said this would warm him up quicker. I recovered well, the midwives said nobody would even guess I'd had a c-section. They also had a meeting and came to see us and asked us to write a letter of complaint about the doctor. They said I had done the right thing for myself and our baby asking for the c-section & the doctor was wrong in refusing & nearly killed us! We decided not too as all we cared about was that our bub was ok. I did get an infection in the wound a week later but I got antibiotics and it cleared up well.

My second was a planned c-section as I cannot give birth naturally. It was hard for me as there was only going to be 17 1/2 months between them & I was worried about Jack - not being able to pick him up etc. I had lots of help so that was good. The spinal block hurt this time, I think I was more stressed than I realised! James was there again & watched it all again. Another boy! Oscar cried straight away, I bawled my eyes out as it was such a relief to hear after Jack not making a sound, and I got to hold him straight away (after they checked him out of course). It was fantastic (and I had my own doctor this time!), a totally different experience! I recovered well again and Jack loves his little brother.

I am looking for some information/advice about c-sections for second births. Our son was 1 yesterday and I am considering another child in the not too distant future, however, I am slightly perturbed as I had a bit of a rough time with my son's birth. I will give a brief summary .. well as brief as I can!!

My labour started 6 days after my due date, at 6am on a Tuesday Morning, all my labour pain was in my back. The pain was bearable but after some persuasion from my Mum I went to the hopsital that night only to be told I was 1 cm dilated and sent home. The pain intensifed in the early hours and my waters broke at 3am on the Wednesday so I went to hospital again, only to be told I was 2cms and the waters were only the 'hind waters' and that I was still not in active labour and was duly sent home again with an induction date set for 4pm on Friday. I stayed at home all day Wednesday and Thursday (mostly in the bath!!!) and the pain and lack of sleep got to me so much that I went back to hospital on Friday am only to be told I was 2cms and still not in active labour and placed on a ward with only paracetamol for pain relief. The hospital was busy that night so my 4pm induction apointment ended up being moved to 1am on the Saturday morning.

I had to walk to the delivery room and upon examination I was told I was 10cms dilated and my baby was breech. I was given the choice of a natural birth or a c section. I was livid as I knew all along my baby was breech but no one would listen to me. I demanded that they scanned me to see how much fluid was left and there was none. I had no choice but to elect for the c section as it was in the best interest of my son. During the procedure there were complications, another incision had to be made in my uterus as my son's head was stuck due to the 'dry' birth!! The surgeon informed me the following day that I would not have problems conceiving but I may have a problem in labour.

All this happened in the UK, I went to see a Gynocologist here in the US a couple of months ago who scared me. This woman is well know, and avoided by everyone in this town who are in the know.. I was unaware of this when I saw her, but she was very much into scare tactics with me. Firstly she told me I need to loose 40lbs before I even think of conceiving, she also told me I need to wait another two years before attempting to get pregnant, and in here in Arizona I have no choice but to go for a c-section as they do not do VBAC (Viginal births after c sections) I had wanted to try to have a baby naturally next time.

I would like to try for a second child in the next year, but all this kinda worries me as to how things will go and if there are any chances of more problems second time around. I can find very little on the internet and just wondered if there is anyone who has gone through a second c-section.
