just my thoughts is all

by lonely28Comment Published at 03:4203:4218 comments18 comments55 Visits55 VisitsReport
Hi guys,
I was just reading another members blog about breast feeding (yep, AGAIN) and just wanted to add that while breast feeding is the "natural choice" it's not the ONLY choice. Life is all about choice not only parenthood and we all have the right to choose what is right for us. Sorry everyone, just needed to get that off my chest..... or should I say bottle lol!!!!!

Happy bottle feeding everyone,

fi xoxo

Re: just my thoughts is all

I myself bottle fed my first as I was returning to work early and didn't think it fair on my baby to give and then take away so soon and I wasn't very well informed at the time. With my second I desperately wanted too but I just wasn't a good enough cow LOL! My daughter went 12hrs with a dry nappy despite the fact that she was getting milk from me it just obviously wasn't any good. In desperation I formula fed and cont to try to breastfeed aswell. I eventually gave up when my efforts were fruitless. I copped it huge from the midwives and felt like a complete failure.... I now know that my baby was fed and they are both healthy beautiful little girls.

So to those who think less of me because I bottle fed my children then pull your head out of your $%^#  and wake up! Care about the welfare of your own child and ensure they grow up to be as healthy and happy as mine are...

LOL! Ahhhhhhhhh.... I have needed to say that for a long time... thank god I found this group!

Re: just my thoughts is all
Ladies we all know that it was BigbearLittlebear's blog, and it certainly didn't say anything against bottle feeding, so if you choose to get the shits as it were, perhaps it is more an indication of how people in general make you feel - not her in particular.  She has no malice toward any of you - who would, you are all pretty mad cool chicks.

I guess that we forget that some mums do have the choice, and choose not to for more cosmetic reasons.  Although the choice is theirs, it could easily be construed as slightly selfish.

Boobs, bottles - who cares anyway - at least we can feed our babies and they aren't dying in our arms of malnutrition like millions of other babies.  I think when you look at the bigger picture we are all bloody lucky!

BTW - perhaps we should get a list of the pros and cons of different formulas - there are often questions about it in Q&A from new mums and weaning mums - what do you reckon?

Re: just my thoughts is all
Hey there lui,
Your idead is a good one, I give you that, the only thing is, as soon as anything about bottle feeding appears anywhere but in here, it's on !!!! All the pro's about breastfeeding and how to STOP bottlefeeding. I am working on a piece of advice about the different formula's and techniques you can use while bottlefeeding. It's not as easy as it seems. This group was set up to not only support other bottlefeeding mothers but give one's that are or have the chance to air some grievences. Especially when time and time again, they have been shot down for bottle feeding. No, I'm not talking about myself being shot down but I do know of other members that feel this way and one does not actually return to minti anymore as she was continually told how to get off the bottle and back on the breast. Or she was given little to no advice about bottles but PLENTY about breast feeding.

As for the blog, it said what it said, no longer care. I just added that it's not the only choice.

cheers,

fi xoxo

Re: just my thoughts is all
Great - I'm glad you are doing that - I think it is very positive.  We formula from just before 6mths as we were traveling in NZ in the snow and stuff and there was no way I was whipping it out when we were out and about - my nipples would have frozen off.  We just carried bottles of water and added those little 1 serve sachets - so easy!

We used S21gold - however someone told me that there is a cheaper version that is practically the same under a different brand name, but made by the same company... The shelves were always empty when we went shopping - however if anyone knew more about that - it would be very helpful.  You could get everyone to add their info and experience here as a gathering information for advice sort of thing - then write it from there. Or do what I did in the parents medical helpline and add useful comments/info to the advice.

There are going to be a lot of mum's who will need to know about the best formula's to choose for the different ages and stages.  There are also big warehouses of bulk buy baby stuff online - so advising them about buying in bulk and where and how to compare pricing would be good too.  If they can't afford to buy in bulk alone - they could either ask other's in their mother's group or perhaps post a notice at the local play group or post natal care clinic to see if anyone wants to buy bulk with them to minimise the costs...

Just some ideas!  I am not so interested in writing about it as I am past that whole thing for the moment - and I couldn't wait to stop breast and bottle feeding!  LOL!  I am sure the group would be able to get a great series together - you know, which formulas are best - ideas on where and when to purchase (some people don't seem to realise there is a use by date etc), best methods of storage, sterilisation, different bottles, different teats and all that jazz.

Have a mad cool day bottle ladeez - from a Mumma of a very healthy boob bottle well fed wee man!

Re: just my thoughts is all

Hi Fi

You are right, well said.

It takes the bigger person to choose what is best for their baby over "breast is best".

Take Care, Nikki & Miss Caitlin

Re: just my thoughts is all
It absolutely shits me off when a particular member does this, she cannot seem to let it go that some people choose to bottle feed, sure we could persist with breastfeeding but guess what.......it's our life, our child and our choice and if she can't understand that then it's her problem and she needs to get a life. I'm not in the mood to be tactful or to ignore this kind of attitude today nor am I going to appologise for it.......

Re: just my thoughts is all

so very true, it's strange though how most of those that can and do breatfeed feel the need to look down their noses at us that can't or don't.

I wonder if someone told them that they had to drink water and water only becasue it is the "natural choice" and is what is best for us that they would stop drinking everything else? I think not!!

Re: just my thoughts is all
I didnt have the choice but i think bottle is good cause if you have PND the last thing you want to do is feed your baby. needless to say Hubby did the mum thing and is very close to our angels.

Re: just my thoughts is all

I agree, I had PND with DS#1 and I hated breast feeding hiom. It came to the point where I would dread his feed times.

I have also found that even though he has been on bottle since he was 7 weeks old, he has been sick less often than kids who were breastfed for 12 months +. Go figure

Re: just my thoughts is all
Hey libby,
the hardest thing is when the choice is taken away from us completely and we are left to do the best we can with what we have. You are so right, the bottle is a great option for women suffering pnd and for some it's the only option they have.

Thanks heaps for your comment,

fi xoxo

Re: just my thoughts is all
Hey cazza,
you are more than welcome here anytime........ . If only there was a guide book to what is best............... that would be interesting that's for sure. Do what's right for you and your baby I say and stuff the rest of them. If your baby and you are happy and the baby is healthy then stuff the rest of 'em. It's your life, your choice and if others can't or won't agree with that then................................... you got it STUFF 'EM!!!!!

love ya,

fi xoxox
