Packaging Tape Residue

by ellosunshineComment Published at 17:5817:587 comments7 comments34 Visits34 VisitsReport

Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows how i can remove the sticky residue from brown packaging tape off my dresser? When we moved a few weeks ago, hubby decided to use the brown packaging tape to tape the drawers close on my dresser so it wont fly open when moving. I've tried to carefully take the tape off but it seemed to only take off the top bit of the tape and leave the sticky bit behind. I need something that can take it off that isnt too harsh eg, metho spirits, nail polish removers arent good as it easily takes off the stained paint on it. Hope someone can help as this is a very nice and not so cheap dressing table.

Thanks

Jo

rubbing alcohol is good for that.  especially on your skin like from tape and bandaids.  try it on the furniture...orange oil works well too...

I dont know about the rubbing alcohol, isnt that like metho and nail polish remover? The dresser has like a varnish/stained dark paint on it and one day i accidently made a permanent mark on it when put the nail polish remover soaked cotton wool on the dresser for a few seconds and it lifted off the paint off it...

I will have a look at orange oil too if that will work...

Have you tried sugar soap?  It is a very good all purpose cleaning product that helps to remove sticky residues and is gentle to timber and paint.  You can get it from any hardware store, and probably in the supermarket as well.  I think Selley's is the one who makes it, and it comes in a deep blue bottle.  Fairly easy on the budget too from past experience.
