Re: some helpful ideas please
I simply sat dd on the toilet (she refused to use a potty lol) and even if she sat there for 5 seconds without moving, even if she did nothing, I would clap and tell her she's so clever for sitting on the toilet by herself.  Eventually she did a wee, got a big sparkly star sticker on her shirt and we rang up all our close friends/rellies to tell them so she kept going and never wore a nappy again.  It took about 4 weeks to train her and she was not long over 1 at the time.  I know the signs to look out for include pulling own pants up and down etc, but she didn't like being wet/soiled so she was at the stage of taking her nappy off before doing anything.  That was from around her 1st birthday.  I waited a month then realised how easy it would be to toilet train her.  She couldn't pull her pants back up again but could get out of them easily enough.  Have fun and give lots and lots of praise, have stickers/stamps on hand and let him ring his next favourite person outside the house! This is a huge milestone and one of the most difficult things with children so just let him go in his time and follow his lead with it.

Re: some helpful ideas please

thanks Flicka

charlie is the same at the moment, he has been taking his pants off since he was able to stand, and in the last few weeks he has been able to pull them back up again, i haven't showed him how to do it either apart from when i dress him, he has also been taking off his nappy and letting me know when he wants to do something or has done something,

so i have been thinking the same thing its time to try and see how we go but i'm not in any way going to rush him thats for sure as it is always best to let any child to do it at their pace, well thats how i feel anyway,

i'm getting stickers today and i bought a book yesterday that has a great magnetic chart in it and its really colourful also, but i was just wondering what worked best for others so that i had an idea,

thanks again for the suggestions

hugs and kisses

The magnetic chart sounds fantastic.  I guess this is a milestone like any others, there are books with ages in them but each child will accomplish things at his or her own pace.  They say children walk at around 12 months, yet we know that some can be 7 months old, some can be nearly 2 before they're walking.  Same with toilet training, the age they say is around 2, but some are out of nappies by their 1st birthday, some are only just toilet trained to start Prep.  Good luck with this next stage, and I hope Charlie enjoys himself too.

Re: some helpful ideas please

Hey Kate, I haven't potty trained but from what I have read and heard, they should be able to pull down their pants, you shouldn't use trainer nappies, and have heard it is good to go hardcore for a few days to drill it in.  But, like I said, haven't done it yet and won't be for a while..Harrison is no where near ready.

And there is a group for toilet training...

Best of luck to you and Charlie!

thanks Ang

for the ideas and suggestions and the like to the group,

he has been taking off his pants for about the same time as standing and he is now starting to work out how to pull them back up again and the nappy taking off has only just stared in the las few weeks its the first thing he does of a morning,  so i thought i would give it a go and see what happens, and if it doesn't work then i'll leave it for a little longer,

super hugs and kisses

well to begin with i started in summer and just took the nappy off  this way she learnt when she was wet and weeing and when she wasnt, she could play outside and pee everywhee for all i cared it was about her learning when she was peeing i kept a potty in the lounge so if she wanted it use it she could and put no pressure on her, she wants a nppy i give her a nappy she doesnt want one id leave it off. chloe toilet trained herself in the end i did it the lazy way lol!

I swear by a star chart, and all children love the rewards at the end of the week....

Also having their favourite character pants on works as well...

take care
love cazza...

p.s. this is a parenting question kate, and u could have put this on the main page.....

i know that i could have put this in the main page but i felt its a question that is asked all to often so i felt it was better here,

they are some really great tips thanks for that, how long did it take you to potty train?

i bought a book yesterday that has magnetic reward chart in it so that it can go on the fridge, the lady at the book shop said that its their most popular potty training book its name is "potty time" they even have a website on the book www.priddybooks.com

super hugs and kisses

Re: some helpful ideas please
it took me 6 weeks all up with my guys for the day, and about  8 weeks with night time....

Depending on how charlie feels,. is how long it will take,.. As i know we had heaps of set backs with brodie. as every time he  got sick. we went back to nappies...

we locked her self in our home., and only went out if we needed too...

Also if charlie has a favourite dvd or show having that on helps as well, for us thank god wiggles was around..

Good luck....

take care
love cazza

ok cool that's what i thought i was going to set a goal of having him (if hes willing) potty trained by Christmas, but it all depends on him, the staying home bit isn't to hard to do as we only really go out if we need to go to the shops or doctors or for a visit with friends,

looks like I'm off to the shops to get some Thomas DVDs lol, thanks again for the great tips and ideas

super hugs and kisses
