Animal Lovers of Australia.....Our Fave Celebrity Vet Needs Our Support and Care

by ArnaComment Published at 01:2501:257 comments7 comments34 Visits34 VisitsReport

It was revealed on Channel 7 news tonight that celebrity vet, Dr Harry Cooper has been receiving treatment for prostate cancer.

The 66 year old apparently was diagnosed back around Christmas 2007 and has been undergoing treatment since then.

He states that his prognosis is good, and that while he's had to restrict his travels, has kept working and will keep working for as long as he can.

Ladies with partners over the age of 50 (or gents of that age) it is important to ensure that testing for prostate cancer is is done (on the male! not the lady!) every 1-2 years.

Prostate cancer rates are on the rise, and with early detection and treatment, there is a high chance of beating it.

The tests these days are not the same as they were.  A blood test is usually all that is required now.

Let's send our positive vibes to our favourite vet and his family, and make it better known that we all need to be aware.

And yes, Les was tested recently and all fine! (apparently I'm stuck with him for at least another 20 years!).

Re: Animal Lovers of Australia.....Our Fave Celebrity Vet Needs Our Support and Care

Hi Arna

This is a terrible desease my father was diognosed with this 15years ago and I don't want to put a damper on all the male minti's but if you have a suspision that something is wrong please have a bone scan as well as we were told that the prostate can leak the virus into the bones without you knowing. My father was having blood tests every month and all looked good his blood count was really good then last year his blood went up to 100 then 200 still the prostate was fine until the bone scan ( he was riddled in the bones) even blod transfusions didn't help as he became very lethargic and breathless.

Please always get a second opinion as you will see in my details I lost my father in Oct. because they found it too late We were told in August that year, It still hurts that they didn't find it in the bones even with the blood test every month.

I don't want to scare any male but please I repeat always get a second opinion.

Hope dr Harry is o.k. and posative thoughts are all out there

Good ol' Dr Harry, it is very sad that he has been suffering and battling prostate cancer.  It is so important for men to be tested and aware of the symptoms.  Thanks for the heads up and of course we wish the lovely Dr Harry all the very best.

Gee I hope he can overcome it. I'm a fan too.  Good to see him still doing his show.

That's a shame, hadn't heard that but glad the prognosis is good. I am a fan. Didn't know that you had a blood test for that, thought it would be just a feel like breast examination. No excuses for us now, they get all the fun! LOL Thanks Arna, Lynette xx

I've noticed he'd been losing weight, but just thought he was trying to keep his health up.

I don't know who they'd get to replace him if he were to retire, as he's long been the front man for animal care.
