Death Toll now officially stands at 130 as of the time I write this. It is now expected to reach over 200. Many people are still missing. For information on loved ones, or if you suspect someone may be looking for you if you've escaped and are okay, the number to call is 1800 727 077.
50 fires are still burning, some townships are still at risk, 12 fires are still out of control. Fires in NSW are still burning as well, but so far there have been no known deaths in NSW.
The military has been called in to assist the fire fighting efforts, in particular in searching the devistated areas for victims.
The doctors treating burns patients that were also treating the Bali Bombing victims have said this is worse.
Blood donations are desperately and urgently needed, please contact your local hospital or the Red Cross to arrange giving blood.
Donations of money can be made through the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Westpac Bank, by telephoning the Bushfire Appeal Hotline on 1800 811 700.
Dontations of non-perishable foods, clothing, blankets, pillows, toys, toiletries, etc; are being collected in most communities. Contact your local Council, branch of the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Community Centre and other charitable organisations in your area to find out who is doing such collections. Furniture is not needed at this stage.
So far Australians have donated almost $10,000,000 for the victims of the bushfires. Unfortunately, the loss and damage is so great that this won't go far, so please keep the money rolling in. If you can't afford it now, it will still be just as important next week, and even next month. Every little bit counts.
A 40 year old man has been arrested and charged with arson in Victoria, for starting one of the fires that lead to the death of 5 people. If he is guilty, may he slowly roast in hell.
Pray that the fires that are still burning do not claim any more townships, homes or victims, and pray that those waiting to find out about the loved ones that are yet to be accounted for have their answers soon. Not knowing is the hardest thing.
The cloud of smoke is so large it is appearing on satelite weather pictures like a huge grey cloud and is being blown towards New Zealand. It is strongly recommended that people in smokey areas stay indoors with all doors and windows closed and the airconditioners turned on to help filter the air. It is also recommended that people suffering from asthma, lung conditions, and other such illnesses get a fumigation mask from a hardware store to help filter the air they breathe better. Smoke inhalation is a dangerous health risk that can lead to many illnesses and even death - it doesn't just have to come from a cigarette to do you damage!
