whats in your pantry

What's in your pantry? Is a great place to come and share all sorts of ways to use pantry items to do stuff around the house. Like what can you use to clean the house or what takes away odours. The sky is the limit. Some things may be bizarre but thats ok, because if you have used something that works really well come in and share! You may just find the solution to your household or beauty problems. Enjoy!

ant control methods!!!

by goodieComment Published at 18:0518:052 comments2 comments118 Visits118 VisitsReport

1.   sprinkle boric acid along cracks or crevices where you have seen ants! to aplie 2 hard the reach areas use a baster to blow it into them! note: boric acid can be toxic if ingested by younge children and pets, so best use it only where lil hands can reach!

2.   draw a line around all entry points to your house with chalk! the ants will be replelled by th ecalcium carbonate in the chalk (made from ground up shells of marine animals) you can also scatter powdered chalk around your garden to keep ants and slugs out!

3.   make a ring of electrical tape (sticky side up) around any food you wish to leave on the bench that you dont want ants into, they will get stuck well before they reach your yummy treat!

4.   sprinkle flour along the back of pantry or anywhere that you see ants entering you home, they will be repelled by the flour and will not cross the flour line!

5.   place a flower pot over a ant hill and pour boilin water down the hole to burn their house down!

6.   made a smooth puree in your belender using a few orange peels and 1 cup of warm water, slowly pour the mixture down the ants hill and they should  vacate!! repeat if they return!!

7.   sprinkle cayenne pepper in spots where you see ants ie. along back of bench tops.... the cayenne pepper will give them the message that there isnt any sugar ahead!!

8.   when you go for a picnic at the park next time make sure you pack some small plastic containers!! the a container around the bottom of all legs of the picnic table and fill them with water.... the ants wont be able to climb the legs and run away with ur food!

9.   sprinkle a line of salt across doorways the ants wont cross the line!

10.  to keep ants out of conatiners ie sugar .... place a bay leaf in the container, if u dont want your  sugar to take the flavour of the bay leaf just tape it to the lid of the container! ants are also discouraged by sage, bay, cinnamon sticks or whole cloves, so place some of these in your cupboards if you have an ant problem!!

11.  if ants are swarmin you garden paths make a mixture of 1 tbs ground black pepper (or another stronger spice like cloves or dry mustard) and 1 cup of flour sprinkle the mixture on your garden paths they should leave within the hour! sweep the mess up after do not hose it as it will make a lovely gooey paste that is harder to get off

12.  scatter talcum powder around foundations of your home to deter ants, other organic repellents include cream of tartar, borax. powdered sulphur and oil of cloves.

13.  try plantin mint around your house... they dont like the smell!

14.  make a spray bottle with 50/50 water and vinegar and spray ants and ants hills they hate the smell and should vacate! also take the bottle with you camping to keep the ants away from your food and stuff!!! note full stregth vinegar can also be used if you have a bad ant problem!

anyway i hope these things help you guys!

Ant Remedy

by Domestic-warriorComment Published at 21:1821:184 comments4 comments138 Visits138 VisitsReport

Does anyone know a remedy for getting rid of ants.   I've been using Ant Rid but it doesn't seem to eradicate them and they seem to get into the kitchen so obviously i don't want to spray chemicals.  I know about the boiling water in the nest and that some essential works but not sure which is best.

Thanks Julie

This is a must have in all households, cleans up wet or dry mess without getting your hands dirty. Handee Ultra i have found is the most absorbant. I have tried all, Cheeper ones are good but you use more of it. Just wipe the mess away.

Rotten Milk....

by Domestic-warriorComment Published at 18:5618:565 comments5 comments90 Visits90 VisitsReport

I have a book called "Spotless" by Shannon Lush and Jennifer Fleming and this entry in it is too good not to mention.  It's so weird.....i love it!

Apparently rotten milk gets rid of ink stains.  It says to rot the milk by leaving it in the sun until solids form. The time this takes depends on the weather and age of milk.   Place the solids on the stain until you see the ink start to rise up in the solids, then wash the solids out by using detergent and water.

Who would have ever thought!
