Ant Remedy

by Domestic-warriorComment Published at 21:1821:184 comments4 comments91 Visits91 VisitsReport

Does anyone know a remedy for getting rid of ants.   I've been using Ant Rid but it doesn't seem to eradicate them and they seem to get into the kitchen so obviously i don't want to spray chemicals.  I know about the boiling water in the nest and that some essential works but not sure which is best.

Thanks Julie

This is a must have in all households, cleans up wet or dry mess without getting your hands dirty. Handee Ultra i have found is the most absorbant. I have tried all, Cheeper ones are good but you use more of it. Just wipe the mess away.

Rotten Milk....

by Domestic-warriorComment Published at 18:5618:565 comments5 comments57 Visits57 VisitsReport

I have a book called "Spotless" by Shannon Lush and Jennifer Fleming and this entry in it is too good not to mention.  It's so weird.....i love it!

Apparently rotten milk gets rid of ink stains.  It says to rot the milk by leaving it in the sun until solids form. The time this takes depends on the weather and age of milk.   Place the solids on the stain until you see the ink start to rise up in the solids, then wash the solids out by using detergent and water.

Who would have ever thought!

This is great as a fabric softener. I generally use it with my towels and used to use it all the time for the nappies. Just put it in the rinse dispenser of the washing machine. Leisa

Not quite in the pantry

Hi
In my bathroom cabinet i have tubes of Silicon Glove from Avon Why you wonder
Well you know that add where the boobs and the legs and the butt cheeks talk to each other and they sing "You don't have to suffer and cry no more"
Yep Triple B rash cream at a ridiculously expensive price and a real crappy lid to boot
Well Silicon glove at a low $2.50 a tube  sometimes even less from Avon is virtually the same thing.
It can also be used when you are washing your hands a lot as well as  it puts a waterproof barrier on your skin so that it stays dry and heals

Great idea and eucalyptus

by Domestic-warriorComment Published at 20:3220:320 comments0 comments8 Visits8 VisitsReport

I've been into the natural cleaning products for a long time now (since before kids) and really looking forward to sharing ideas.  Here are a couple from me:

* Eucalyptus oil is also great for removing the glue that a sticker might leave behind on toys, glass, plastic or white-goods - place a small amount on a cloth and rub.

* Bicarb soda is a good cleaning abrasive for sinks, basins, baths and toilets.  You can add a few drops of essential oil like tea tree or lemon as well.

Happy cleaning (ha ha) Julie

just to get you going

by goodieComment Published at 23:0023:004 comments4 comments26 Visits26 VisitsReport

In recent years people have been looking for other alternatives to the usual chemically laiden products on the market. It is quite disturbing to see the amount of chemicals that we have in our houses without thinking about it. I didn't really think much about this until I had my son, I dont want him so be exposed to every chemical know to man.

So here are a few ideas that I have heard of using instead of (or if you need a quick fix and have run out) chemicals. Some of them are a little bizarre but apparently they work. Well its worth a try anyway.

The most versatile thing that I can think of is white vinegar. My mum has been using this ever since I can remember for all sorts of things around the house aswell as cooking. She always used to soak new cloths in vinegar and cold water to fix the colours so they didn't run. She mopped the floor with it. You can also use it to get stains out of things like clothes or carpet. It will also kill odour producing bacteria so you can splash it under your arm pits so they aren't so smelly.

Lemon juice can be used as a bleach for hair or if you have stains on chopping boards. It will take the smell of fish off your hands too if you've been handeling fish a lot.  it helps relieve dinosaur elbows (dry, scaly) just make a paste fromlemon juice and bakeing soda and rub it on.  it will also stop cut apples going brown.

Shortening (fat) can be used as make up remover. So will sorebelen moisteriser.

Peanut butter can be used to get chewy out of hair, just rub it in until the gum comes out.

For emergency shaving cream you can use butter on wet skin, it will leave ur legs lovely and soft.

You can use mild yellow mustard to sooth and stimulate skin but be sure to test that your not sensitive first.

crushed up asprin and water in a paste will dry up pimples. leave it on for a couple of minutes and wash off. takes away the redness and sting.

A splinter can be removed using a peice of tape (probably packing tape). if you dond fell like diggin a crater in you hand, just put a peice of tape over it and leave it on for 3 days, when you take the tape off the splinter should come away with it.

another thing that will take odours out of your skin is coffee beans. when rubbed together they realise oil which absorbs the smell.

Mayonaise can be used as a hair conditioner.

small peices of glass can be picked up using white bread.

you can polish shoes with bannana peels.

a mixture of 2 tbs vodkadishwashing liquid and watercan be used to kill weeds as it dries them up when the sun hits them.

Put dried Kidney beans into a sock and microwave them to make a heat pack.
