War heroine 'not classed leader'

by angiehComment Published at 00:2600:263 comments3 comments22 Visits22 VisitsReport

I just read an article about a woman called Pearl Cornioley who was initially classed as not having the qualities to be a good leader during WW2. Later on in WWII she led a troop of 3000 French Resistance fighters.

I think it just goes to show that even if people think you can't do something, if in your heart and mind you believe you can do it, you can do whatever it is you want to do.

She was recommended for the Military Cross but was ineligible because she was a woman. She was offered a Civil MBE but refused it because she thought it was unjust. Later on she received a proper MBE.

Another good call Angie, you are on fire, I have so many in my head, I must get posting too.  I agree with her refusal of a civil medal, I think that Nancy Wake had a similar situation.  Good on her for holding out, and what a great lady she was - another true heroine.

Grrrrrr, It really irks me that women dont get the recognition they deserve. So many wars and battles have been won throughout History because women did the necessary, rarely do they ever get a mention, Thank you for sharing, this amazing Lady's story.

You know, Women keep the country running whilst the men were away doing jobs that weren't considered suitable for a lady!

I haven't heard of her before but it doesn't surprise me that she wasn't initially recognized for her efforts.
