Food saving

by LibbySComment Published at 01:5901:595 comments5 comments54 Visits54 VisitsReport

How many times have you heard that we eat whatever is on our plates, so we should use smaller plates and we will still think we're full? This tip is kind of like that.

We have crumbed chicken strips in our family. (Just chicken breats, cut into strips, cover in flour, then egg then breadcrumbs and cook in fry pan or grill - easy peasy)

I buy in bulk (saving number one) and then cut up into strips and crumb in one big go. I then freeze in freezer bags with the right of strips for a meal (5 strips per adult).

What I find, is that I get about 7 strips per breast. If I was to crumb the whole breast the adults would eat one each, but 5 strips really is enough. So I get more meals out of the same amount of meat (and we don't eat more than we need either) Saving number two!

Re: Food saving

One I like is have a nice bowl/plate of salad each and do the same as you...cut meat into strips and place a few on top. Quite handy if you have raised both carnivores and herbivores like me.

You will find that a small amount of meat goes a long way and you can often buy better more expensive cuts of meat from time to time.

Re: Food saving
i do this also.... same with bolognese sauce.... i cook a big 2kg pack of beef mince (woolies premium heart smart) and use the sauce etc etc and then serve our meal.... what is leftover goes into containers large enough to hold a meal for the 3 of us, then gets cooled down and then lids on and in freezer!
Its a great and easy meal for when you have been busy all day and don't want to cook up a storm!
Just cook a little bit of pasta and dinner is served!
