move or not?

ok  heres the sitch....
u live in a house in a pretty bad neighbourhood, u have lived there awhile now and live in a quiet culdesac so u havent had to many probs u got a bad neighbour a year or so back who made life hell for awhile....

you have decided to move house to avoid any more dramas, you live in housing and are a single parent so the rent is cheap and you can afford luxuries and to do fun stuff with the kids, you have put in for a transfer...

now you have been offered a house to rent privately in the suburb you grew up in, you LOVE it there the house is ON the beach your children can go to the school you went to and its the BEST place ever and u hoped to be able to move back one day.

the prob is the house is privately owned so that means alot more rent and if the owners decide to sell at some point houses dont come up there very often so you will prob have to move back to the bad suburb you are in already and wont get back into housing for ages so will have to rent privately HERE too. all in all you lose the stability of public housing...

so do you move into the private rental in the suburb you love and risk it? or do you wait for the transfer and see what housing give u and make the best of it ?

Re: move or not?

I'd move.

My reason because if I am not 100% happy where I am I can move to this new place, and in the mean time have a look around for another place just in case always keep an eye out.  Also for me if I am happy where I am at I am more productive and  I find the happier I am the better things are for me.  When I am down, bad things happen, when I am positive better things happen (hense the reason I always try to stay positive.)  Opitunities for me only ever seem to come when I am happy within myself. And if my kids are happy then of course I am too.  I'd probably look at it as a new start for me and my family. Like I said once I move I can look around for another place for that just in case and see what is out there.

Re: move or not?

i would stay in the public housing, only becsause if it came back to having to go back to the bad area, the kids couldbe really hurt by this and may not want to change schools again.i would just be thinking about things like that.

Given I hate moving, I'd say move! lol.  Who knows?  Your new neighbour might be the catch of the year!

Re: move or not?
I would move to the place that i can  give my child a better life! Even if its taken a risk. Housing is cheap and prob not where you really want t bring up your child. What is the worse thing that can happen? You will never be left on the street. My friend did this and as soon as she moved into the better home and better suburb she put her name down again for housing incase of some unfortunate situation had arised. So yes i would move.

Re: move or not?

Risk taker and adventurer me, would move. You never can tell what oppertunities will arise in the future, and things may work out well. Now that said, due to family, I would work the finance angle. I would also ask the landlord what long term plans they had for the property, not set in stone but gives one an idea of their minset. If I could afford the private rent and the luxuries were not essential to the children. Then off I go. I could wait for Public Housing and end up with worse nieghbours than before or in a more distant area. Stability comes from an emotionally happy home, if I was happier moving then that has to be good for my emotional self and that is good for my kid's. The best luxuary of all for me is being happy in one's own space.

Re: move or not?
I say move!!!!!!! Sometimes change is a scary thing but sometimes it's the best thing. I had someone say to me once it's funny how these things have a way of working themselves out........... wise women she is. Go for it and see what happens...... better to give it a go then sit around and wonder what if.

love ya,

Re: move or not?
OK sounds too close to my life for comfort. lol Unfortunately I am not a risk taker and would stick with the public housing as I don't like to lose stability. I would keep pushing for the transfer cause like you said the rent could go up, house could sell, could be a tsunami. lol This could be a real scenario.

Re: move or not?
i would say go for it weather private rental or not still have a lease written up and read the fine print anything your not sure of in the lease ring the tenencies authority in your state and they can help with if it is a good contract to agree to.
and then if it is good go for it you only live once and if it makes you and the kids happy it would be worth it.maybe the owners arnt looking to sell maybe find out if they are thinking of it first.
good luck
luv stace
