naughty step method ....good idea?

by shhmumsthewordComment Published at 07:4607:463 comments3 comments25 Visits25 VisitsReport

We have seen these are getting very popular and with baby no2 on the way they sound ideal ...the mat is sensored so i'll know if he gets up it has a timmer to tell him when hes allowed to get up, but are they really all that good I thought id sit here and do some research and some articles say no!...

So whats your thought's here, sould we invest in one? are they any good? could they have a negative undesired effect? see although I see many articles saying no.. dont use the time out and naughty step methods... I haven't as yet come across an article that can explain...so who better to ask than you?

Re: naughty step method ....good idea?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with it. The number of things I've brought that have been useless.....well I could write a book!

If time outs work for you that's great, you just have to a designated place for it to occur. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't work for Grub at all. He just ends up in a state.

Sometimes it's just the tone of my voice that is enough for him to settle down and behave. Other times I have to remove him from the area that he's misbehaving at, and if that means I have to take him home from a friends house, then so be it.

On his worst days, you know the ones when your at home and they muck up constantly and won't DO ANYTHING Mummy asks, then I get him where it hurts the most. Toys. I ask once, the second time I ask and don't get the required response, then a toy goes in the bin or in the top of Mummy's wardrobe and he loses till I'm ready to give it back. And that's usually anything between 1-5 days.......when Mummy remembers that she actually put it there!!!

Every kids different and has thier own challenges and pushes different buttons!

Ive never saw these, and wouldnt waste my money... I have always just used a normal seat. and had them in the corner or hallway... and they know if they moved they be put back there..  Never had many issues with that way.....

But everyone to their own, and  it might be time effective for some... You would have to have the child understand  as some of them couldnt read the time....

Hey Jo. I really don't think these are necessary as we have used 'time out' or as we call it 'the naughty corner' since Jack was 15 months old and it works fine without anything like these. You may have to put them back there a few times at first but they eventually get it & it really does work. To be honest I have never seen these before!
