First there was Astro Boy, then there was Kimba the White Lion. Then not much hit the western world from Japanese animation for a while, well, not enough for lots of people to notice anyway. One of the first that hit our TV screens after Kimba was one that made me eventually wonder if it even really did exist at all!
An old anime show I watched almost religiously as a child was one that most people I've spoken to about have never even heard of, or if they have, they can't remember, or won't admit to watching it. So for years I just gave up asking people if they remembered it. It had become like it was some sort of little private show that was only on TV for me and only I knew about it. Weird huh?
Then I find a new younger friend (8 years younger) who is big into cartoons, who I would think would be a little too young to remember it if people my age couldn't remember it! It's not something that repeated over the decades after all. But to my delighted surprise, not only has he heard of it, he has the original series on DVD!!! OMG!!! For years no one I knew had even heard of it, and yet there it was in his DVD collection staring right at me!
So now I'm going to find out if anyone else here has heard of it, seen it, watched it as a kid, or has it on DVD as well...
Battle of the Planets.
Ring any bells? The main hero characters were Princess, Keyop, Tiny, Mark and Jason. The main big bad guy was Zoltar.
I won't be surprised at all if this blog gets no comments besides "nup, never heard of it" but at least now I know it did in fact exist and it isn't just me that knows about it! Yay! |

I still remember going to watch it on the big screen with my gf, and sitting there bawling my eyes out.. and being so young and naive..
Then when it come on tv later on, remember sitting at my gf sisters with tissues by our side, chocolate and chips on standby..

Does any one remember 90's teenage movies such as the cult classics like Dazed and confused which took up back to 1979 and the final day of high school and one of the comments made which was:- the 60's were kinda cool the 70's sucked but the 80's are gonna rule. *lol* It also had the young sexy Jason Landon.
Also Empire Records based in a record store that is going to be sold to a chain. With Liv Tyler, Anthony Lapaliga and a whole heap of other who would mainly only do those types of movies in the 90's .
What about Jay and Silent Bob in the series of movies Kevin Smith (silent bob) wrote and directed. These Movies were clerks, jay and silent bob, Mallrats and others. All fast talking about anything. These were all pretty cool.
Don't forget she's all that, I know what you did last summer, Scream and Cruel intentions.
Geez I miss the 90's

Can any one remember all the cool cartoons that used to be in the 80's and 90's like ROBOTECH, VOLTRON, the original transformers and Astro Boy. Also He Man and Sheera, City of Gold and the Pound Puppies and all the other cool things that used to be on when your parents wanted to go places and you took your time getting ready They definately do not make cartoons like those any more. Maybe it was just I had more time to enjoy them. |

I saw this when I was a child at the Saturday Cinema. I loved it and have been trying to find a copy, as Ruth is now of an age where I think she would delight in the concept and relate to the little boy. Any one else remember? or are you all to young, LOL.
I hope you manage find a quiet half hour to go watch this little story of a boy who finds a Red Balloon, which follows him around. A timeless classic with a message for the young and the old.

does anyone remember a cartoon from the late70's/ early 80's that had white blobs as some of the charaters. It had a family of people as well. Prehistoric period I think. They rode dinosaurs? It's the blobs I remember the most. It was a classic but for the life of me I can't remember the name. I've tried to google it but no luck so far. Someone my age may recall?? It's driving me nuts trying to remember! |
