and I still haven't found a reference to this one...

"Under ground, over ground, wombling free, the Wombles of Wimbleton, common are we, making good use of the things that we find, things that the every day folks leave behind."

The TV show: The Wombles.

Now, is the fact that I can remember the theme song by heart frightening or what?

The cobbers question got me thinking...

There is another lolly/candy type thing that I loved as a kid but haven't seen in ages...

Jupiter Caramel Bar - softish chewy bar of caramel loaded with sesame seeds.

Can't even find one in this time-warped town anymore! Has anyone seen one in the past 10 years?

oh my 1982

by anniebabeComment Published at 03:1303:138 comments8 comments29 Visits29 VisitsReport

does anyone remember when we were allowed to run on the footy oval after the siren run up to the players and congratulate them or hang around and kick the footy.

im talking about the mcg afl park just to name a few.

we saw an old game being replayed on tv yesterday before the delayed coverage of essendon and carlton (melbourne viewers) back in 1982 when tim watson was playing. the style of footy was totally different even the way the players ran.

the ground was muddier (my son says because in those days there was no drainage built onto the turf  ) also places like telstra dome the roof  gets covered so no more wet grounds.

my goodness it even brought back memories to my son (he will be 28 on friday) so even though he was only 2 in 1982 he remembers in 1985 on how they were allowed on the ground after the siren!

gee if my son is at the stage where he is seeing flashbacks my goodness what can i say at 51!!!

i remember going to the footy in the 70s before i was married and the cheer squad were allowed to bring in the streamers on sticks with the two colours of their teams.

my some of these streamers were huge and the fan would frantically be waving them about when their team scored. i even remember streamers catching on fire at south melbourne carlton game at  what is now the "bob jane stadium

and for those that dont know south melbourne then moved to sydney to become the sydney swans the first team to move interstate outside of victoria.

for those also who dont know those days there were only 12 teams with the top 4 going into finals all the teams played each other evenly twice one on the home game then away game and all played on a saturday afternoon with games starting at 2.10pm

that game on sunday on telly brought back such great memories.................

Mad Magazine

Alright, I've got another one! Who remembers Mad magazine? I used to love that thing. So ridiculous. When we would take road trips when I was a kid alternating between that and comic books would totally keep me entertained.

Garbage Pail Kids

by superpoComment Published at 16:2916:2912 comments12 comments29 Visits29 VisitsReport

I was sooooo into these when I was about 12. They were these cards you collected with gross versions of Cabbage Patch-like Kids on them. They had a hard stick of gum in 'em that I don't think anyone ever chewed. I wish I could remember some of the names of them!

by anniebabeComment Published at 02:4402:442 comments2 comments14 Visits14 VisitsReport

do u remember when thats life and take 5 were $1? i asked myself that today. due to greek orthodox easter and lead up to it i only bought my mas today 6 days later than usual the mags now cost 2.80 each times 2 = $5.60 weekly which had me thinking $22.40 for 4 weeks.

now when they were $1 each that only came to $8 for 4 weeks

thats $14.40 extra every 4 weeks. i know cost of petrol to deliver printing and the rest but there are also more ads and sponsers than when they first came out . just a thought

i will still buy them but i couldnt help but think!!!

cheers annie

Matilda and Disco Donna

by LuvMyBubComment Published at 05:1905:192 comments2 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport

Around the mid 70s I got a Matilda doll for my birthday, does anyone remember them? A few years later Disco Donna was popular, she was just a cheaper version of Barbie with roller skates. My most wanted toy though was the Smash Up Derby cars but I never got one
