WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

by llmunchkinComment Published at 21:4021:4014 comments14 comments83 Visits83 VisitsReport

Is it a scam?

Some well known and lesser known email scams are listed here, with explanations, as well as links to Snopes, with further details.  This is a good basis to judge whether the emails and posts on facebook and bebo etc. that you receive have an ounce of truth in them.

Is it truly harassment?

Spam mail may be annoying, however it is not construed as harassment.  Neither is posting on someone else's website, or in a chat room.  This site gives you a general guide to the type of emails you receive that are abuse; i.e. when you have repeatedly asked someone not to contact you via email or instant chat, and they don't 'go away'.

Is it safe in msn etc?

Simple safety tips for you to use when using any sort of IM program, blog, online journal or chat room.  Advice about what you can do to protect your real identity, to setting your privacy, blocking and reporting other users.  It covers most of the well known programs, and is well worth reading.

I guess it is an opportunity to recreate another life online if their real life isn't very satisfactory.

Re: WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

why bother though? why not just be yourself online and meet ppl who like you for who you are? what would the point b of pretending to b someone else or acting different?

and that goes for harrssing ppl to! if u dont like soemone online why bother even saying anything to them? let alone bloody harrassing them! sorry i got all heated there i just find it STUPID

if u have a boring life that you hate go out in the REAL world and start afresh and meet new ppl, the net is a timewaster that is fun yes and suppliments real life but its a crappy substitute for HAVING a real life.

Re: WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

Are you having a dig at me for playing online???  I'll have you know that MicroMe and MaxiMe were sick today, and I was nursey Lui... LOL!

Yes, being fake only goes so far, and it doesn't take long to see through people, so I don't know why they would persist in trying to make friends with you on one hand, yet bag the heck out of you behind your back.

As for me, well I love picking on you straight up, here, in your blog, on facebook, on msn, EVERYWHERE!  LOL... Ah, but I can, until you ask me not to email you etc. ; )

Yes, I am not a good nurse, I am too impatient... I dragged Maxi patient out of bed to strip it and make it all nice, then I couldn't be bothered making it (oops).

You weren't having a dig?  That's no fun, you must be tired ; )

Well it was pretty much what I thought it would be, but it's always worth checking.  There are a few other sites that cover the same topic, and the general gist is the same.  I think it is great for anyone who feels they are being cyber stalked as well, they can't help you legally, however they can be your advocate and help you with moral support and advice.

I found this rather interesting and enlightening. So I presume this would cover Minti Mail too? So if someone persists in mailing, even after being asked not to, then that constitutes harassement. Thankyou for this it now makes things so much clearer while dealing with strangers in cyberworld.LOL

Re: WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

I presume it would cover minti mail; in which case, if you feel you are being harassed, you would contact admin.  In the case of hotmail or any other sort of mail service, you would contact the administrators of that service.  Apparently it is common for people who do harass other's by these means to claim that they are being harassed, however most administrators can 'see' everything on their servers and trace the truth, though it pays to save your emails to make it easier for them to do so.

Re: WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

I'm smart.  If I don't know the sender, it gets deleted.  Not on MSN much these days, so no probs their either.  And, anything that is spam that is posted on minti and I find, well we all know what happens to that!

Re: WHO@ - Working to Halt Online Abuse...

Well you are good at spotting spam and dealing with it quickly... I'm pretty much the same if I use msn; the privacy settings aren't there to add decoration, neither is that 'block' button.  I figure if someone is writing to you from an unknown or new email address, and they aren't smart enough to identify themselves in the subject line, then tough luck.
