Computer Games Etc

by Trudy67Comment Published at 17:3917:390 comments0 comments11 Visits11 VisitsReport
Hi All

Havent been around for a while, we are busy building our new house.  Someone asked about Video Games etc.  I heard some great advice the other day.  For every hour they spend watching tv or playing computer games they should spend 2 hours reading or playing outside.  We have just put this into practice in our house.  So far it seems to be working.  Our oldest Blair who is 10 going on 11 got up early this morning, watched an hour of ABC kids and is now sitting on his bed reading a book.  He took himself off there which I am pretty proud of.  (Lets see how long it lasts)

We have had rain all Easter here and it doesnt look like letting up today either.  Back to work for me so the boys grandparents have come down from Perth to look after them while we are at work.  They are off to the library to pick up some more books as they have read all the ones that we have unpacked at the moment.

Anyway better get going - Have a Nice Day

hi I thought i might join this group as i also have a son born in1996 He was born on Australia Day.

Wanted to say good on you for limiting yr sons time on the games my son is also a mad game freak and i have been trying to do the same. And as for girls well unfortunately they get worse as they get older as i already have a son that is 3 yrs older.

Chris is a really good kid i was informed by his teacher yesterday that she could only name a cpl of kids she wnated in her class at school this year and Chris was the number one on her list so that was great to hear.

Anyway he has band camp this weekend so i better go get him sorted out. Hope to make friends with some of you.

My Boy is Growing Up

To all those other mothers whos kids have just hit double figures.  Whew Weve made it this far.

Im just new here and thought I would join in with this blog.

My son has just started getting interested in girls - he has a "girlfriend" called Katie who is a year older than him.  Very boss this one - hope it doesnt last    Im sort of glad that we have moved out of town so she just cant come over when she likes.  My concern is that her parents arnt overly concerned about her whereabouts.  The first time she came to our house after school I asked her if her mum knew where she was and she said as long as she was home before dark it didnt matter.    I asked her if she would like to call her mum and tell her where she was so she did.  I asked to talk to her mum as this lady had never met me and I know that I would like to know where my kids where after school.

The next time she arrived at our doorstep was a Friday afternoon.  She had her sleeping bag with her and I asked where she was going.  She said that Blair had invited her to sleep over that night and her mum had said it was OK.  I couldnt believe it.  One thing I would never let them do is sleep over each others house and also this mother had never met me, had no contact numbers for me or anything.

Im I being overly concerned or am I right in my thinking that children of 10 & 11 shouldnt be doing things like this?  Neither of my sons would be allowed to stay over at a girlfriends place unless they were close friends and I knew the parents.

I would like to know what others think.  Only have to make it through another year then she will be off to high school and Blair will forget about her.  We can only hope.

Bye For Now

Welcome to Minti

Good morning, I agree that the info does stop for this age group but parent's magazine tries to put information out there. The child care issue is interesting also. In Canada Stephen Harper's new $100/mth for child care is too funny! I don't get it due to income levels but I sure do pay it out!

I have to say that I spend a fair amount of time on line looking up information relating to my son and his age group. I hope this stuff will be able to be recycled for his younger brother but they are 2 different kids so it might be relevant.

We are just starting to get into the girl thing. Some boys in his class are interested in girls and he is not really but he is concerned with it I think. He doesn't say much but he gets embarrassed when he watches some commercials and TV shows when ever there is something that is a bit mushy. I pray that I will have another year before he really gets into the girls. I don't want to see his little heart crushed.

Forgotten Ones?

by CDeliaSComment Published at 13:5213:521 comments1 comments193 Visits193 VisitsReport
I have been wondering lately what others think of the strange way parenting magazines drop off in their coverage of information relevant to moms and dads of older children and teenagers.  Why is it that there are endless sources of articles on pregnancy, birth, infancy through toddlerhood--then, (mostly)gone?  Yes, it is important to have information on feeding and caregiving of the littlest ones...but, what about the older kids?  Have I just missed something?  I'd appreciate any leads for good sources of info.  --cds--
