Give Your Supermarket/Suppliers Feedback...

by llmunchkinComment Published at 17:2217:224 comments4 comments28 Visits28 VisitsReport

Some supermarkets are now stocking fairtrade products... This increased buying power will hopefully make some products more affordable, and the convenience may raise the profile of these products.

If your particular supermarket isn't stocking fairtrade products, yet the buying chain sources them, write to them, or speak to the manager.  Find out what you can do to encourage them to supply products that are fair trade.

Lucky enough to have a supermarket or major chain supply of fairtrade products in your area?  Give some feedback back to the management and ecourage them to continue with this and similar lines.  Let people know that these products are available, and where they can purchase them; every effort you make is worth while.

Our local coles stocks coffee, tea & chocolate, which is great!  Bi-Lo used to but have now stopped .  Hopefully as more and  more people buy it and ask for it, the large companies will notice and do something about it.  There are little cards you can get from some fair trade suppliers which you can leave with a shop telling them what fair trade is and that you would like it - a great idea and less confrontational.

Ooh I like that, I might check online to see if I can get some sent to me; so far I am not finding ANY fair trade goods suppliers around here, whereas I was so close to heaps of them in Sydney... You are ever so clever!

I noticed a local Coles had fair trade coffee.  $14.00 for 100g though....way to expensive.  I know people say that we are unwilling to spend the money but if it were our children etc and i think i am pretty good with that sor t of thing.  I buy organic veges and milk every week and am happy to pay the little extra for something that actually tastes the way it should.  I also buy some organic products, like coffee, eggs, honey etc where i can but i nearly choked at that price!

I know what you mean, they do price themselves out of the market sometimes, however that is the price of not being mainstream I guess.  For me, at the moment, the best deals are definitely online.
