The things a child does in high school all affect college admission. Review the admissions info on some colleges now so that you can make choices that make that process easier later on, instead of thinking to yourself junior year, if only. . .

Make sure they are developing independent study habits. If you aren't around, will they still study effectively?
Start getting them used to addressing authority in a more one to one but still respectful manner - they will have to handle many of their own issues when they start school.
Take a look at activities, colleges like long term commitments, ei: activites they participate in all 4 years of high school, and leadership activities.
Keep track of all activities, tests and awards. It's hard to remember what happened 4 years ago when senior-itis hits.
