My daughter Paige was born on the 3rd of September 2002.
She weighed 3025 grams and was 48cm long.
She was born at 8:30pm by emergency caesarean after a failed induction. My doctor thought that she had stopped growing, and he decided that it was better to induce her at 38 weeks than to let her come when she was ready. He said that after 38 weeks the placenta can start to break down and if the baby is not growing then it is at risk. This doctor deals with a lot of multiple births, as he is involved with IVF, so he is used to dealing with tiny babies and 38 weeks is full term as far as he is concerned!
Paige had trouble feeding and got tired very easily. Whilst visiting the Paediatrician to try and work out how to get her to gain some weight he noticed a slight murmur in her heartbeat.
We were referred to a Cardiologist and had nemerous tests done and it was discoverd that Paige had a condition called "Patent Ductus Arteriosis". This is where a tube that bypasses the lungs doesn't close up after birth. Paige was Breast fed and formula fed to help her to put on weight. When she was 6 months old she had surgery on her heart to fix this problem.
Paige is now a very bright school girl who loves reading and riding her bike. She loves animals, especially our 2 cats, going to the beach, camping and caving. She also loves jigsaw puzzles, My Little Pony's, Barbies, Lego and duplo Trains! |

Hi Everyone
It is nice to hear about other people's birthing experience.
My son Keandre was born on the 3rd June 2002, at 5.10pm, weighing in at 3.540kg (I'm not sure what that is in pounds/ounces).
He was my first child so i was pretty nervous on what the experience would be like. At anti-natal classes they make it sound so scary. It didnt help me when i had to finally go in hospital that there was another lady giving birth and she was screaming and swearing so badly, I felt i didnt want to do this anymore if its going to be that bad, i had tears in my eyes.... but with a bit of pain relief and making sure you have the timing right when sniffing the gas, it wasnt as bad as people make it out to be. I didnt even make that much noise when pushing, the doctor and nurses said i was the most quietest birth they had...lol

Hi! Introducing the one & only Emma!
Emma was born 2 weeks late on 4th September 2002. She's lively, full of life and inquisitiveness, and fairly classic "High-Needs" or "Strong-Willed" (choose your label!!!). She's a real tom-boy, loving rough play, trains and mud! She's due to start school in September, just as she turns 5. She's very creative and always comes out of Preschool with armfuls of artwork and splodges of paint on her clothes and shoes. She loves gymnastics and is pretty fearless. After a slow start (going from 7lbs 3oz at birth to 10lbs at 4 months) she is now big for her age, looking more like 6.

Hi everyone,
Read some birthing stories and can feel for you all, I have a shocker to tell so this is the quick version...
I was seriously ill during and after the pregnancy (gall stones plus complications lots of fun)
Day 1: waters broke at 3am 13th October, arrived at hospital at 7.30am, hospital sent me home (nurses said "Your not in labour yet might as well go home as nothing is happening") walking was hard as the pain was something, my est mate drove to her place and her mum was cross with the hospital so me mate and I went for a walk, me mates mum got worried and drove the car looking for us but we were down the park sitting down (relaxing I just couldn't walk for a bit),
Day 2: next day drove to the hospital to finish parent training and what to expect when in labour, picked up the pram and put it all together (by me self on the kitchen floor) not feeling to good at this stage week dizzy spells,
Day 3: next day had my first internal examination 8.30am (ha I say to this) the doctor says "Congratulations you are 2.5cm dialated" I reply with "Oh does this have anything to do with the other day when I came in and you lot sent me home?" Then DR asks how did I get tot he hospital I reply "I drove me cars outside." Dr freaks out puts a sercuty guard on me and tells me I'm not allowed to leave the building, mean time I've yet again been sick and now am sitting quietly, got the shakes again too. "Oh isn't being being pregnant fun....." walked up to the ward and got hooked up to drips and things, epidural past out when that got put in, throwing up quite regularly by now, rest of the day was a blur then some time later emergancy C Section. I cried yes it was over..... Katie was born 16th October 2002 at 3.15am, she was in a hurry to be born as she was nearly 6 weeks early. Both of us were put on antibiotics for 5 days
Day4: Got put in the worst ward in the hospital with nurses from hell my family were horrified with the treatment of myself and my baby, that they had to complain, but as usual nothing happens.
Final note: Had to stay in hospital a total of 7 days then left as I couldn't tak the rubbish from the nurses anymore but I was still throwing up and ill I didn't even get to carry Katie out the hospital my mum had to.
Oh yeah you guessed it I was still sick for another 3 months before the doctors in a different hospital figuired out that it was gall bladder issues.
Happy to report Katie is well and happy which at the end of it all can't change got to get on with it all. |
