Hubby and I decided that we weren't going to name our children after anyone in the family (issues with his family) so we searched the baby name book and came up with Haylee and Kaitlin.
I have always loved the name Haylee but didn't want it spelt Hayley. As it is a very popular name (I went through school having a common name) I still wanted it but thought a different spelling, so I decided it should be Hailee however hubby got confused and Haylee was the result.
Kaitlin was originally to be called Jorja however close friends of ours called their daughter Jorja so that was out. I came across Kaitlin in the baby name book and really liked it but again it appeared to be a very popular name so again we went with a different spelling.
I'd love to hear why you named your girls the names (and spelling) that you did. |

Re: How did you choose your girls names?
Hi! Thanks for the add to this group. Im not altogether sure mine qualify as Princesses, as they are tomboys (well, the oldest absolutely is but Im not certain about the youngest yet). But tomboys are still girls with their own set of challenges!
Names - well Emma got her name as it was one I'd always wanted to use. I'd known several Emmas, & none of them spoiled the name, and DH liked it too. We couldnt agree on a middle name until after she was born. We got out the Baby-names book and I turned to "B": "she cant have a middle name starting with A" I commented to DH. "What's wrong with the initials MAR?" he asked puzzled. I had to point out Emma does not start with an "M" - what sleep deprivation did to him LOL! So she got Bethany, as it sounded right with Emma. I was arguing for Bethan, as I'd seen someone on TV with it, but DH didnt like it.
Sophie was going to be a boy. We were all sure of that, until the 20 week scan! She would probably have been Thomas. So we had to come up with something, but we'd run out of favourites already. I liked Sophie (remember Sophie in Home & Away?) but DH wasnt convinced. Having failed to find anything else we could agree on, he practised by calling bump "Sophie" for a while, and managed to come round. After she was born, we really were scraping the barrel for a middle name. As Sophie is short we decided, as with Emma, that we needed a longer middle name. After about a week of disagreeing, we finally settled on Elizabeth, the name of one of our friends kids. Only then did MIL, who'd been trying to help us while trying not to influence us, admit she was hoping for Elizabeth as it was her mum's middle name.
I went for straightforward spellings as we have an oft-misspelt surname, and I went through school with a common Christian name uncommonly spelt, so wanted to avoid my girls being lumbered with correcting everyone as I was/still am!
