how i stay fit as a mum of 3 kids under 4

by josiermComment Published at 15:5015:501 comments1 comments12 Visits12 VisitsReport

I am proud to say that I have just lost a bit of weight (12 kg since oct, total of 19kg since I got home from hospital) after having my 3rd baby.  I am now back to my pre-kids weight.  With my twins I walked with the pram everyday....twin pram and 2 kids walking up hill is damn hard work so the weight loss was easy.  This time around, not so easy.  Walking was near impossible- the twins are now too old for the pram but too young to walk too far or too fast.  The evenings were even busier now (when my husband got home from work) between breastfeeds, dinner and bathing 3 kids) so evening walks were too hard.

So, I bought a treadmill.  I used to thing these contraptions were ridculous pieces of equipment and a waste of money: that is, until I had 3 young kids and a weight problem for the first time in my life.  We got a really good quality one.  I made it a habit that every morning, when the kids were watching playchool, I would get on for a walk/run.  The treadmill is in a spot where I can still see the kids but they can't get hurt on it.  We have a house rule that the kids are not allowed anywhere near the treadmill, the safety key is removed and its turned off at the power after every use and covered with a sheet to deter the kids from playing on it.  I know the risks of friction burns and caught fingers, and so far the kids have been really good about it, and learning about mummy's excercise at the same time.

I have also just started back playing netball twice a week.  The kids go to creche for one game, and the other game the older 2 are at pre-school anyway, so the baby goes to creche by herself.  Today I am limping around with sore muscles, so I know its doing something for me.  Hopefully in a few weeks my body will be used to playing again and I wont be so sore after games.

One day I will get back into doing my yoga DVDs: might help with the post netball aches.

well, thats how I stay fit as a mum of 3 kids under the age of 4.

Wii Fit

by JacquiComment Published at 18:1318:130 comments0 comments29 Visits29 VisitsReport

A radio announcer was talking about the Wii Fit today. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. Has anyone tried one?  What does it offer? Worth the money?

Jogging with Children

by JaneQComment Published at 11:5811:580 comments0 comments31 Visits31 VisitsReport

I have had a hard time lately working up the desire to get out and exercise. However, I cam across an article yesterday that gave me the motivation to get out and do something.  It always seems so overwhelming at first with all the weight I feel I need to lose and I often lose hope and the desire.  After reading this article I realized I have to start somewhere even if it is as simple as walking around the block.  Something is always better than nothing!  It's a great article.  You can read it here.   JaneQ

Still keeping up with the excersise

by samanthaComment Published at 22:5322:531 comments1 comments18 Visits18 VisitsReport

yep i am still excersiseing as reguarly as i can. i've been averaging 3 times a week, which is pretty good considering how much i have going on all the time. my diet has been really good too lately so that combined with my excersise routine i feel fanatastic. i would love to go see someone to find out what my biological age is. i have watched a few programs that have doctors that do it and would be really interested in finding out what my biological age is. has anyone else gone and had it done?, and if so were do you get it done?

No Pain

by KileeGilesComment Published at 20:0320:031 comments1 comments18 Visits18 VisitsReport

It has been over 2 weeks since I ran last with one quack visit and one xray and nothing to explain the pain.  Although I have a podiatrist appointment set for this week I noticed on the weekend that my foot is no longer causing pain so I ventured out for a jog on Sunday arvo.

Other than the heat - which I suffer from alot it went relatively well given the lack of exercise over the past few weeks.  I couldn't jog the whole way but my foot is perfectly fine.

Will be running again tonight so I guess its wait and see

Xray all Clear

by KileeGilesComment Published at 17:2617:260 comments0 comments14 Visits14 VisitsReport

Picked up my xrays yesterday and they are all clear.  Next stop is the podiatrist for which I can't get in until next week.  Played indoor beach volleyball with the work team last night, not such a good plan, the uneven sand played havoc with my foot.  Thanks god for neurofen :)

Freeway Bike Hike - Where is everyone?

by KileeGilesComment Published at 18:3718:372 comments2 comments35 Visits35 VisitsReport

Where are all the other Fitness as a Parent people - would love to know what you guys are up to.

In Perth yesterday they ran the Freeway Bike Hike - this has been run in previous years where they close off the Freeway between Belmont and Joondalup and 8000 or so bike riders, ride the 30km along the freeway.  It was the first time I participated and it was great fun.  Strange to be riding along the road uninterrupted (unlike bike paths).  I normally take 1 1/2 hours to do 30km but with yesterday it was only 1hr 13min.  I put that down soley to not having to stop or slow down for pedestrians etc.

The only down side was that for the first year they did a 60km ride from Kwinana to Joondalup.  They told everyone there would be additional trains to get people to the start.  To cut a long story short I took my friend to the station to get to the start and ended up having to pick him up as there weren't enough trains.  Approx 200 cyclists missed out getting to the start line if they were waiting at Bullsbrook, not sure how many others missed out at other stations.

He ended up doing the 30km as well in 1hr 3 min including a 10min stop to change his tyre after a blow out - not his day really.

Doctors Appointment

by KileeGilesComment Published at 20:5820:582 comments2 comments26 Visits26 VisitsReport

Went to the doctor last night and she is a little perplexed about what it could be in relation to my foot.  She is sending me for an xray (which I am headed to shortly) but she doesn't seem to think it will show anything.  If it doesn't she has suggested I see a Podiatrist.  I have found a local one that specialises in sport so that will be the next step.  In the meantime it's cycling and swimming but no running  :(
