I am proud to say that I have just lost a bit of weight (12 kg since oct, total of 19kg since I got home from hospital) after having my 3rd baby. I am now back to my pre-kids weight. With my twins I walked with the pram everyday....twin pram and 2 kids walking up hill is damn hard work so the weight loss was easy. This time around, not so easy. Walking was near impossible- the twins are now too old for the pram but too young to walk too far or too fast. The evenings were even busier now (when my husband got home from work) between breastfeeds, dinner and bathing 3 kids) so evening walks were too hard.
So, I bought a treadmill. I used to thing these contraptions were ridculous pieces of equipment and a waste of money: that is, until I had 3 young kids and a weight problem for the first time in my life. We got a really good quality one. I made it a habit that every morning, when the kids were watching playchool, I would get on for a walk/run. The treadmill is in a spot where I can still see the kids but they can't get hurt on it. We have a house rule that the kids are not allowed anywhere near the treadmill, the safety key is removed and its turned off at the power after every use and covered with a sheet to deter the kids from playing on it. I know the risks of friction burns and caught fingers, and so far the kids have been really good about it, and learning about mummy's excercise at the same time.
I have also just started back playing netball twice a week. The kids go to creche for one game, and the other game the older 2 are at pre-school anyway, so the baby goes to creche by herself. Today I am limping around with sore muscles, so I know its doing something for me. Hopefully in a few weeks my body will be used to playing again and I wont be so sore after games.
One day I will get back into doing my yoga DVDs: might help with the post netball aches.
well, thats how I stay fit as a mum of 3 kids under the age of 4. |
