re: breast/bottle what is easier??

by mummy2girlsComment Published at 13:4213:423 comments3 comments62 Visits62 VisitsReport

i think that once you already have a child that breast feeding is easier as you only have to take youself with the baby to feed or give fluids...

BUT...

i have started back at work and have to take changes of clotheswith me, just in case!!!!

because i have a three year old and a baby, in my experience i have founnd breast feeding more convienient for me...  i'm sure this is not the case for everyone and i'm also sure that if baby emily would drink from a bottle better without all the fuss then i probably would have stopped breast feeding before now (she's approaching eight months!!).

once she masters a cup or cuts teeth then i'm going to stop!!!

If teathing is your only concern to wean, then you should wait and give it a go first. As you know when a baby/child breastfeeds the tongue is laid over the top of the bottom teeth, if they are feeding properly i.e, not being lazy, then the teeth shouldnt come into contact with your breast at all. As for top teeth, i have only ever been slightly grized by them once or twice as Elise was falling to sleep and she was 'slipping off', so she didnt even know she was going it.  There werent even any signs of bloody, just a little soreness that went away in a few minutes

I also found b/f more convienent in terms of things to take and easy of no preperation. Things do get tricky when you start working so hang in there if you can. It does get draining though when working and trying to combine everything.

Good luck with it all!

Re: re: breast/bottle what is easier??

I've definitely found b/f easier! All that sterilising, no thanks! And I always leave something at home as I dive out of the door with my preschooler, late again!

I must say though that once they drink from a juicecup it's a relief as sometimes in public it's just so much easier to whip out a cup than a boob. And the lifesaver was a cup in the car on long journeys - yes, I HAVE leaned over from the middle of the back seat and fed DD1 in her car seat! It was so much easier than listening to her SCREAMING for an hour, as I did on a previous journey, before we stopped in a layby on a busy road with the articulated lorries thundering past and rocking us as they did so.

I fed DD1 to 26 months, and to be honest the teeth werent much of an issue. She nipped me a few times, and I gave her the works (frown, stern no and dumped on the floor), and it was a month before the next time. DD2 has been the same so far, so here's hoping for a good couple of years, but you never can tell, they're all so different. And so are we - stop when the time's right for you! But dont live in fear of the teeth, they dont necessarily turn them all into dracula!
