Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

by gillygirlComment Published at 21:1721:177 comments7 comments87 Visits87 VisitsReport

August 1 -7 is World Breastfeeding Week.  World Breastfeeding Week is held every year to promote and encourage breastfeeding. The theme of this year's event is "Breastfeeding: The 1st hour - Save One Million Babies".

Doing anything to celebrate it?

Re: Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Due to my line of work, I had a special promotion for my customers to celebrate the week and also provided information on it so people know what it is all about. Every little bit helps!

I think we should celebrate all mums for having a go at breastfeeding no matter how long they were able to feed! Hopefully it will encourage more mums to do it.

Re: Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
Our mothers group just had coffee at the local coffeeshop. The paper turned up to take a photo, but the girl just wanted a photo of one mother kissing her baby. Ironically the mother she asked has not been able to breastfeed due to health reasons. good afternoon though.

Re: Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
We actually have put the message out at my daycare centre but unfortunately we were not allowed to display any posters or anything because most mums would be offended by it as they never breastfed, or if they did it was only for a few weeks.  We do have posters up on nutrition and they say about breastfeeding being the baby's first food, and we have a little note next to that saying World Breastfeeding Week August 1 - 7.  Thanks for putting this out there for the rest of Minti to see!

Re: Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
World Breastfeeding Week is to get the message out about the importance of breastfeeding, and hopefully encourage more women to stick with it for longer.  The more people know about it, and the more people in society they see doing it, hopefully the more people will start breastfeeding for longer.  Not nearly enough babies are being breastfed and this contributes to all sorts of illnesses including diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.  Most times these illnesses are not present until later in life, although the stats now say that 1 in 5
