sharp teeth

by IzzyComment Published at 18:0918:094 comments4 comments30 Visits30 VisitsReport

My twins have 4 teeth on top and 2 on the bottom, but it's only lately that their teeth have been hurting me while they are breastfeeding. They are sharp and annoying, but the thing is, they don't hurt me all the time, plus it seems to be happening more with Jojo than Katie.  I thought maybe it has to do with the latch, so I unlatch and put Jojo back on, but it doesn't help. And like I said, it doesn't even happen every feeding.  I figure it has to do with position.

Have any of you, found a way/position or whatever else that is helpful in order to prevent their teeth from hurting the breast?

Re: sharp teeth

I agree with the other comments - don't think there is a solution! My first daughter used to deliberately bite me and then laugh at my reaction! I breastfed her for 11.5 months - her last bite cost her 2 weeks worth of milk (I was aiming for 12 months!)

Re: sharp teeth

I only remember Em biting me twice, and I dumped her on the floor, which was her pet hate (no milk + no mummy = waaahhhhh!) and I dont remember noticing her sharp new teeth. With Sophie, she sometimes clamps up when falling asleep like Bella. But when she feels her teeth cutting her gums, she kind of chews uncomfortably for a week or longer, and goes on to nipping me for the two days which hurt her most. So I get out the teething gel and paracetamol and the ibuprofen! Doesnt cure it, but does help me get through. I dont know if this is why Katie and Jojo do it, but it might be worth considering.

Re: sharp teeth

Sorry, I never found a solution - with my first son I never had the problem, he bit once & that was it. But with number 2 I had the same trouble as you are having & just couldn't find a solution! I feel for you! xxoo

Re: sharp teeth

The only time B hurts is when she is falling asleep and she seems to clench her teeth - OW!  So I carefully open her mouth and take it out.  Sometimes she will then look for it again, so I just wait for a few minutes and take it out again.  She did bite me a few times, but I took her off and put my breasts away and she soon got the message, but this is an unvoluntary thing - I do notice too that her positioning has got worse as she has got older.  Sorry I can't help more.
