still breastfeeding at 13 months

by IzzyComment Published at 04:3704:373 comments3 comments14 Visits14 VisitsReport

My twins are now 13 1/2 months and are still breastfeeding. We are now at 3x a day. I am quite pleased and feel no urge to stop just yet, especially that they are having cow's milk allergy issues. I breastfed my son for 11 1/2 months so we're past that now. Yay!

I was just planning on breastfeeding the girls for at least a year and was planning on fully weaning this month in preparation for an 8 hour drive to a sister-in-law's wedding. But the wedding got postponed, so I decided to just take my sweet time with the weaning process. But currently, I don't mind at all so we may keep going.

well done Izzy - that's quite an achievement!  Twins for over a year - wow!

i have been thinking of weaning B now she's 2 - we were down to one feed a day and some days none at all - then she's been sick and it's back up to 2-3 times a day (only while she's sick, mind).  Still it's nice to know you can do something good for them when they are sick...

That's great! I'm glad to hear it's going well. As long as everybody's happy with it, why stop, right?

you're absolutely right. It is still working out, and it didn't even interfere with our 4 hr drive to the in-laws this weekend. I never had to excuse myself with the girls over the weekend that she thought I had weaned (I nurse right before bed, when they wake up and when they nap). She was quite surprised when I told her that I was still breastfeeding.
