Minti - The Virtual Mother's Group

by ClayCookComment Published at 18:4118:417 comments7 comments2091 Visits2091 VisitsReport

Dear Reader,

Minti (www.minti.com) is the most amazing site for parents I have ever come across. It breaks down the walls of social isolation that many parents face. The members are real people with real problems, and real solutions. Whether you are a parent of your first newborn baby, your teenage grandchildren are becoming difficult to understand, or you are planning a child and want to get a better idea what you can expect, Minti (www.minti.com) has the answers… or we will quickly find them for you!

Today, in my home, I had the pleasure of  talking with a community social worker who runs a local parenting group. She was telling me all about the benefits of such groups, emphasizing the support from other parents and the valuable and practical experience and advice that can be learned from them, as opposed to a text book or supposed expert. I laughed, and turned on my computer.

I went to the internet and typed in www.minti.com, such an easy website address to remember, and a site that I am a member of. I stepped away and said, “Like this?” and let her sit down and have a look. She was astounded that such a site existed, was completely free to join and use, and even more astounded that the site had almost 25,000 members from all over the planet; who had written over 6000 parenting advice articles from their own personal experiences and research, with dozens more being added by parents every week. She then flooded me with questions.

“What about personal support for parents?” I showed her a blog written from someone having a bad day and all the supportive comments that it had received. She noted the time stamps and was amazed at how quickly the responses of support and advice had been. She was almost in tears as she read the beauty and feelings of real caring within some of the comments.

“What if someone has a specific question they want to ask?” I showed her the Questions and Answers section (www.minti.com/questions-and-answers). Lots of specific questions, with advice articles linked to them by other members, as well as many valuable and intelligent, heart-felt answers that had been given so quickly.

“How safe is it? I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about internet sites.” I explained how the Administration keep a close eye on things, and usually at least one of them can be found online at any given time of day or night. Even when the Administration members aren’t around, the other members look after each other. Just about everything can be reported, and when that happens, whatever is reported vanishes instantly and gets reviewed, and if it is deemed appropriate and suitable it comes back, otherwise it stays off the site. Any member can report anything they find offensive or unsuitable. The members have to behave themselves or they can be removed from the site as well. I suffer from severe anxiety, and this is the only internet site that I have found that I feel completely comfortable and safe to be a part of.

“Yes, that’s all fine and well, but it’s not like the members can meet for coffee and let their children interact and play together and learn social skills…” she saw the expression on my face and said, “Or are you going to tell me that happens over this internet site as well?” She quickly changed her tone of cynicism as I opened up the Virtual to Reality group on the site and showed her photo after photo, and story after story, of members meeting up for coffee and playtimes. Her jaw dropped. Predicting what her next question would be, I then showed her advice articles about staying safe on the site, meeting with other members in real life, and how to go about such social interaction both on the site and off without getting into trouble or dangerous situations. Her jaw dropped.

“And being the internet and worldwide, this is accessible and active 24 hours a day?” That’s right. Just then my phone rang. It was another member of Minti asking me if I could get some advice from the site for her situation because she didn’t have internet access at the time. That was too easy to do, I found what she needed to know within seconds. When the call was finished, the social worker asked me where the girl that phoned was from – over 1,000km away. We met up with each other when I was on holiday in her city.

Like I said at the start of this letter, Minti (www.minti.com) is the most amazing site for parents I have ever come across.

Note: This letter was written by DA a Minti member, and ever so slightly amended by ClayCook. The title was written by Cassaustin, another Minti member.

Minti wants to donate USD$20k to the Starlight Foundation

by ClayCookComment Published at 21:2521:251 comments1 comments144 Visits144 VisitsReport
Note: I also posted this on my Minti blog here...

Hi all Minti friends,

We have just launched a new program where we (ie: Minti) will be donating USD$1 for every new member that we receive before Christmas to the Starlight foundation.

We are hoping to reach 20k new confirmed members before Christmas to hit our USD$20k donation target. Here is more info about it.

Can you please help us?

How? Easy...
  1. Go here and type in as many of your parenting friends as possible, and then click the "refer" button.
  2. Inform other Minti members and ask them to refer their parenting friends also.
  3. Blog about it if you have a blog.
  4. Help us spread the word in any way possible
Thanks so much,
Clay

Coasters

by exquisite-flowerComment Published at 05:0605:062 comments2 comments134 Visits134 VisitsReport
If, like me, you want to have something to give people to help 'spread the word' email Matthew and he will send you a packet of Minti Coasters.  They are well useful.  They can be left anywhere, at playgroups, churches, gymnastics and other clubs, school, etc.
Christmas time is great cuz of all the fetes and fundraisers where there are loads of people.  I even gave one to this lady today, her baby was fairly new and i passed her in the street.  I dont know who she was, but my crazy attempt at being friendly sure made her smile!!!

So email Matthew and then just start sharing the goodness of Minti.
Peace

Is there a banner or something that I could add to my MySpace area that I can advertise Minti.  Although I blogged there it is unlikely that it will receive the views that my actual page gets.  All I need is the html tag so I can copy/paste it in i think....here goes me talking about something I have too little knowledge on.

"Official Info"

by exquisite-flowerComment Published at 10:0310:030 comments0 comments142 Visits142 VisitsReport

I would love to have some flyers to give to friends and maybe to leave in places where there are a few mums and dads who congregate and might appreciate the invite too.

Is there an official flyer that I could use?  I dont want to break copyright with Minti any more than those websites we incorporate into our Minti articles!!

Also I aint great at designing these things - so if anyone has an expertise in this area I would sure love to utilise it.

If I do have to make my own - is there any info that must/must not be used?
Peace

Playgroup.

I went to playgroup today and they have a laptop with free internet access so while Amy was busy painting the other children rather then the paper, I sneaked a look at my Minti Mail ( My name is Tink. I am a Minti-holic!) After taking a brief look at some foto Fridays and leaving some comments I had to logout as Amy had taken to painting the soft play area but I left the laptop open with Minti's Homepage displayed which seemed to grab the attention of some mums, I don't know if anyone has signed up as I left shortly afterwards (not because of Amy's behaviour of course, it was time to come home) Hopefully some of them will have taken the web address, fingers crossed we should have some more members from Brighton so keep your eyes open.
