The Christmas Grotto

Finally it is up...

We planned to do it at the weekend, but DH was called to a fire (he's part of the volunteer fire brigade) all day, then Sunday we were at a local fair doing a stall...  So yesterday we drove down our street into the bush and picked a few trees.  We took some to Mum and Dads and picked our favourite for the lounge room.

So, yes it looks a bit spindly and is lopsided thanks to the star on top, but it is real and smells and everything...  First you can see the kids hard at work decorating it:

Yes, I was being sarcastic - of course they wanted to get the decorations in from the shed (poor mum had to battle the spiders and rearrange the shed to get to them) and they wanted to put them up straight away, but soon lost interest while mummy untangled lights and found a strand that was working.  When we were finally ready to put the decorations on they had lost all interest - "you do it, Mum".  So much for the magic of childhood memories and doing it together...  Oh well, such is life, it is rarely a postcard picture...

Heres my tree this year, the boys and l put it up today and deco the room....we can never have enough decos on the tree.

I thought with wanting to change my view on Christmas, lets all post our pics of our trees. would be great to see all the different ones this year. Come on and join in on the fun :)

I have done Christmas shopping for the kids - but not really for grown ups and given our financial situation I can't be spending much so am looking for some good ideas - maybe a herb pot or something....  My son wants me to get out the christmas decorations (hidden in the shed - yuk!) and has already got out a string of lights.  DO I wait until the weekend and get hubby to do it, or do it myself??  And cards - I still have the ones I  bought last year and never sent, but that means I would have to find my address book. Is anyone else out there as disorganised as me??

How are your preparations going?  What special things are you planning to make this year great?

Hello everyone - after some healthy discussion on Christmas in my comment on Chrisco yesterday, i just thought I'd re-open this group and get some ideas from everyone on Christmas 2008.  How do you celebrate?  What do you think of Christmas? What does it mean to you?  What are your plans for this year?  If you don't celebrate it, why not and what will you do instead?

Ps There are plenty of articles on Christmas - 269 to be precise - feast activities and meaning are just a few - are they helpful?  What would you add?

Yay me kids keep on saying Yay, we found the decorations and put up the tree, so this is their creation, only one side of the tree done I might add LOL but I think they did well

I have finally got hubby to get the tree out from up in the roof and I can't find any of the decorations, he was meant to put them with the tree last year but they are not there.  I can't afford to go and buy more, any suggestions on what I can do, he doesn't even know where he put the lights AHHHHH MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK it's not the most beautiful but it is up & the lights are up!!
