Susceptible To A Kiwi Accent...

by llmunchkinComment Published at 23:3823:3814 comments14 comments50 Visits50 VisitsReport

This one came from a bigger babe; my 13yr old nephew Josh from L.A. who was on holidays with us in NZ a few weeks ago.  He advised his mother that he felt he was developing a kiwi accent, as being half kiwi, he was more susceptible to it than other people... This was within about 12 hrs of landing in the country.

LOL.  Now I'm sure there is some logic in there some where!  Like maybe it is better to blend in than stand out! LOL.

Our girls are always going on about the way I say things, and they laugh at their Nana too! LOL

I'm sure there is, he tends to think about things quite carefully before talking... Though he did earn the nickname of Captain Obvious from Steve & Livvy : )

LOL I am guessing the girls all have good old Aussie accents then.  Jaydee picked up an LA accent off his little cousin Sam Sam which was hilarious.

LOL, jeez i didn't know kiwi accents were so contagious!!  My sister lives in Japan on an American base.  She has this weird mix of kiwi/american/asian, her kids just sound American!

I'd love to hear her accent, sounds cool!  Joshie would hate me saying this, but when he was little and he talked on the phone, I thought he sounded just like Elmo.  My brother used to have to be on the other line interpreting for me LOL!

Her accent is strange, its not how i recall it growing up so it takes a bit to get use to!  Elmo, at least he doesn't sound like that now!!

Re: Susceptible To A Kiwi Accent...

lol I remember my cultural psychology lecturer teaching us that some people are able to easily adapt to the environment around them and unconsciously try to match the accent. I wonder if that's what he was referring to?

Re: Susceptible To A Kiwi Accent...

Maybe, though I doubt that he gave it that much thought LOL!  It is so hard to lose an American accent, I must check & see if his friends & family thought he sounded different when he went home.

Yup and some are just a tiny bit crazier than others too, though he may have a point with all that craziness LOL!

He sure is... My little nephew Sam who is 2 says 'no way' all the time, (generally he means 'yes'), now little Mr Jaydee Jay has taken up that little catch phrase too.
